Do we know for sure Petraeus is going to tow the line for Bush?
It seems to me Bush's people have been downplaying what Petraeus is going to say lately. Is it possible that Petraeus is hinting that he will recommend the troops stay just to keep the Republicans from slandering him before the actual report comes out?

We know he is going to be somewhat honest about the lack of political progress and if he has any kind of brains about his future reputation, any real integrity and love for the troops, then the logical thing for him to do is give an honest, sober account of everything. He can then say we should start pulling out to put pressure on the Iraqi government and his actions and our military come out looking ok because they helped secure some areas but the Iraqi's didn't perform.

If Petraeus is as smart as everyone suggests then that is what he will do. If he is a dishonest scumbag then he will simply tow the line for Bush and cost the lives of thousands of more soldiers and ruin his own reputation just like Powell did.

So, is there a chance he could surprise us and do the right thing?

2. What a shocking nice surprise that would be.
It would be like the beginning of a revolution, for the military that has been dissed by bush. Trouble is, too many times we hoped someone would show courage. Some have but the media chose not to investigate and make an issue of it - unless it's bathroom sex. Patraeus would be hard to ignore if he didn't follow the repub party line.

3. No, not a chance.
At this moment, Petraeus is enjoying his last few hours of integrity, because he will have none left by this time tomorrow.

6. From MSNBC:
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 10:36 PM by Lobster Martini
"Mark your calendars... Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker will testify Monday, Sept. 10th at 12:30 pm before a joint hearing of the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committee."

The Bush report (formerly known as the Petraeus report) is still due on the 15th.

5. The report is sourced from the White House.
It is being called the Petraeus Report to give it some credibility. The Bullshit Media System, as usual, is out misrepresenting on orders.

General Petraeus would not contradict his CIC anymore than that asshole Powel would, in or out of uniform. Also Petraeus is an evil shit who thinks our efforts at genocide in the Phillipines at the turn of the last century were a good example of how to deal with an insurgency.

The model for dissent in the Pentagon is a) retire, b) now say what is on your mind if you care.
