Apple sells one millionth iPhone
Apple reported Monday that it has sold its one millionth iPhone, well ahead of its previously stated end of September timeframe.

In noting the milestone in a press release, Apple CEO Steve Jobs explained that it took almost two years to reach the same sales goal with the iPod, while the iPhone took a mere 74 days.

"We can't wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season," said Jobs.

2. Does Apple even make computers anymore?
most of their profits seem to be for lack of a better word "nicknacks".

4. apparently you haven't actually checked the facts
Apple's sales of computers are up sharply. During the third quarter of this year, Apple shipped 1,764,000 Mac computers, representing 33 percent growth over the year-ago quarter and exceeding the previous company record for quarterly Mac shipments by over 150,000. That follows a second quarter in which Apple shipped 1,517,000 Macs, representing 36 percent growth in Macs over the previous year second quarter sales.

And as for the idea that ipods and iphones are "nicknacks" -- I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I think a device that stores and plays songs, pictures and movies and has as much as 160 GB of memory is more than a "nicknack".

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Apple Inc. on Wednesday reported its first-quarter profit soared 78%, far surpassing Wall Street expectations, as sales of its iPod media players rocketed past even the most optimistic of analysts' forecasts.

AAPL135.26, +3.49, +2.6%) posted a profit of $1 billion, or $1.14 a share, for the period ended Dec. 30, up from $565 million, or 65 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 24.5% to $7.1 billion from $5.75 billion.

The results beat the estimates of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call, who expected Apple to earn 78 cents a share on revenue of $6.42 billion.
Leading the charge for Apple was its line of iPods, with the company shipping 21 million of the market-leading devices during the quarter, a 50% jump from a year ago. Sales of the device accounted for $3.43 billion of the company's revenue, or nearly half the total.

You appear to have a lot of time on your hands, go hunt down their most recent earnings report so we can verify what percentage of total company profit is from hardware sales of desktops and laptops.

3rd Quarter CPU revenue subtotal: $2,533,000,000. Total 3rd quarter revenue: $5,410,000,000. So that's 47% from straight computer sales --- which suggests that, in answer to your question, yes, Apple still does make computers. MOreover, only 40 percent of apple's revenues are from your so-called "nicknacks" -- ipods and iphones. The remaining 13 percent is from non-ipod/non-iphone peripherals, software and service. So the largest part of the company's business still is computers.

3. They can sell me one as soon as it has 30 gig or so and I don't need AT&T for it
I can't see spending that much for so little memory, and I don't want to be tied down to a rather mediocre carrier.

7. I'll buy one, when they have more storage room.
I like the idea of everything in one device, but I can't store a fraction of my music files in a puny 8G iPhone. And forget television shows.
