Here is what I have taken away from the Patraeus/Crocker testimony.

1. Iraqi lives are more important than US kids' lives, they are not equally important, they are more important

2. It is OK if Iraq has an incompetent and corrupt government, we're stuck with it

3. We have no clue how long it will take to secure the country or if even the country can be secured

4. We are so bogged down that it is impossible to plan ahead

5. The surge can be ended but the occupation with 100,000 + troops can't

6. We need to ask somebody else about what effect this war is having on other aspects of our national security, Patraeus could care less about anything but his mission

7. We got no real answers today and the congresspeople basically grandstanded, got their sound bites in and didn't really care if their questions got answered in any meaningful way

8. If I were a mother with a son or daughter in Iraq, I would be eating my face right now.
