Remember the "Insane cop video" from yesterday? Followup
Here's the original thread. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=1773373 .

Turns out that sometimes, when you catch them in the act, you can actually shame them enough to make things happen.

"A car-mounted video camera — more commonly used by police than against them — captured a loud and threatening confrontation in this tiny St. Louis County community that left an officer on suspension and the whole world able to listen in.

The picture doesn't show much, but the audio part of the recording, posted on Google Video and YouTube on the Internet, brought more than 300 protest calls to St. George Police Chief Scott Uhrig.

"I was very displeased when I saw the actions on the video," Uhrig said. "My officers are not trained and taught to act like that." He put Sgt. James Kuehnlein on unpaid suspension pending further investigation."

2. Another example of how the Internets can change things for the better.
This video could have been taken 30 years ago...
but none of us would have ever seen it, and nothing
would have happened to that overgrown 2nd-grade bully
posing as a police officer.

But up here in 2007, EVERYONE can see the video, and
that's a whole different scenario. As this incident shows.

"Unpaid suspension" is Police Dept. code for "soon to be
seeking opportunities in the uniformed service industry".

5. I only watched about half of that video to tell that officer is screwn
He started off confrontational and got belligerent real quick. The kid said nothing I would consider confrontational. The officer shot himself when he said the reason for stopping him was a failure to use a turn signal. In the first 10 seconds of the video you can see the turn indicator on the dash. How the hell did this guy get to be a Sgt? I think Chief Uhrig needs to spend a lot more time evaluating his officers performance and mental state. I don't like to diss police, I've had to work with them all my working life, but I know it's a career that attracts many that are prone to authoritarianism who could abuse their power.

6. Great job!
I'm sorry you had to deal with that crap, but at least you had the forethought to install those cameras. Good work bringing this to light.

What about Officer 2? He just stood there and listened while that prick threatened to jail you for no reason.

7. Schweet! The power of video!
I'm glad when I see the cops finally act on this and take some action. In my experience, all too often hey ignore the complaints of people. That guy was awesome for catching that on film!

8. The real issue isn't even the his out-of-control temper
It's the fact that he was threatening to make up charges (he flat out says that's what he would do).

He also happens to need serious anger mangagement.

9. This officer's word is now virtually useless in court
I can't see how any future arrest of his would stick. All the defense attorney would have to do is claim that the new charges were also made up. Here's video evidence.

10. What about the second officer?
The transcript reads a second officer arrived on the scene (it doesn't specify whether or not he was Kuehnlein's partner or not), but the article doesn't mention him. That's quite odd, considering he stood by idly as another cop ripped Darrow's rights to shreds. His badge should be on the Chief's desk as well. There's no reason to tolerate this "Blue Wall" bullshit.

11. in amerikka we do.....
<snip>

"We don't do that," Uhrig said. "Someone either violated the law or they didn't. You don't say, I'll lock you up and then come up with why afterward."

12. here is another update
this reminds me of an incident I had many years ago. This really pisses me off...

<snip>

Darrow wants Kuehnlein fired. Chief Uhrig says his officer used inappropriate language. But he tells Fox 2, Darrow was driving erratically, parked away from other cars at the lot, and got out of the car with his fists clenched like he was going to fight with the sergeant. Chief Uhrig believes Darrow, who has had other run-ins with police, was baiting Kuehnlein to lash out.

"There is some language, certain things said that I don't condone. But at the same time, this guy was pushing the buttons of this officer, antagonizing him purposely," explained Uhrig.

But Darrow denies any baiting. He had this answer when fox 2's Chris Regnier asked him if he was trying to set up the officer.

"Absolutely not. I mean, I didn't look at him. I didn't even really acknowledge him. It was no big deal. I just pulled in a commuter parking lot."

Chief Uhrig says Kuehnlein did not have the camera inside his cruiser turned on during the incident. The chief tells us the camera is supposed to be rolling during all stops. Sergeant Kuehnlein has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

13. "I'm allowed to park here" = baiting.... fucking pigs.
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 06:13 AM by Kingshakabobo
Even in the face of all that evidence, they will claim some non-existent "fist clenching" to try and cover that pig's ass......even though "fist clenching" doesn't match the victim's demeanor and it strains credulity. But hey, if the pig says it, it MUST be true - just like the turn signal and erratic driving.

edit to add: I never referred to cops as pigs until a few years ago and I don't refer to ALL cops as "pigs"........but the pig in the OP is a poster boy for the name.
