The FOLLY of Attacking Iran: Fox News Analyst reveals "ideal" campaign which would be disasterous

From http://rawstory.com//news/2007/Fox_US_makes_Iran_bombing_plan_0912.html

Fox analyst: Germany's actions leave us 'no choice' but to bomb Iran

Lt. Gen. (ret.) Thomas McInerney told Fox, "Since Germany has backed out of helping economically, we do not have any other choice. ... They've forced us into the military option."

"I think the option should initially be tit-for-tat," McInerney went on. "For every explosively formed projectile from Iran that goes off in Iraq, two go off in Iran, no questions asked."

"The one I favor the most, of course, is an air campaign," he continued. "Forty-eight hours duration, hitting 2500 aimed points to take out their nuclear facilities, their air defense facilities, their air force, their navy, their Shahab-3 retaliatory missiles, and finally their command and control. And then let the Iranian people take their country back."

This is BY FAR, the MOST DISTURBING AND DISASTROUS STRATEGY EVER PUBLICLY SPOKEN. PERIOD. Let's hope the Active Generals in the Pentagon have more sense in their heads than this idiot.

First off, Sanctions are not a diplomatic solution. Sanctions ARE a form of MILITARY PRESSURE. They must be enforced by MILITARY. Unjustified sanctions can be considered an act of war.

Iran will not simply sit back and allow us to bomb 2500 targets in their country. They will defend and retaliate. And just how will they do that?

1. A Strong Military: 2 million strong. With another 14 MILLION CAPABLE. These are more than just civilians who can be drafted. These are 14 MILLION PEOPLE WHO HAVE SERVED 2+ Years in the Iranian Military. Everyone abled-body Iranian serves at least 2 years.
2. Equipment. Iran is the world's FOURTH largest producer of oil. They have a successful economy and have used it to acquire, build and maintain a significant amount of military hardware.
3. Missiles: Iran has missile launchers other than their Air Defense. They have THOUSANDS of these missiles that can even reach Israel. They will hit EVERY U.S. Ship in the Gulf and every U.S. target in Iraq. U.S. Casualties will be severe.
4. Air Defense: Their air defense is far more advanced than Lt. Gen. McInerney is giving them credit for. They have watched the Wars in Iraq closely and have learned about our stealth technology. Don't expect an air campaign to go as smoothly as it did in Iraq.

Short of nuking every major city in Iran, a military strike on Iran will result in a War that America is not prepared to handle. We have overextended our military. We have burned through our treasury and resources. A War with Iran will REQUIRE a draft and if it comes to that I expect a rebellion here in the states. No one I know believes attacking Iran is a good idea and I can't imagine the chicken hawks rushing to join in a war where casualties will be unlike anything we've seen since Vietnam.

1. And we all know how tit-for-tat has made for a lasting peace in Israel.

2. your reasoned argument against attacking Iran has one major problem
Bush & the neo-cons pay no attention to "reason." They don't seem to care how much it will cost in blood or $$$ either.
The only hope is (and maybe they have back channeled this) Congress letting them know: Impeachment IS ON THE TABLE!

3. Not on the table, bud
That implies it is option. There is no option. Impeachment is an imperative. Impeachment proceedings have the effect of hindering and burdening an administration ... and we need to apply all the hindering we can summon down on this crew of malign thugs before they do even more damage to America. We don't have to achieve a conviction for impeachment to serve a useful purpose.

6. If it is hopelessly flawed and failed from the start, then Bush must be behind it...
What Bush is not taking into account is that other Middle Eastern countries, and Europe, Russia, and CHina are not going to stand pat while we launch such an attack on Iran.

All the parts will be moving, and no one knows exactly how this will morph out of control.
