Michael Moore to be on 20/20 with Stossel to discuss Cndn health care needs to know this.
Someone needs to tell Michael Moore this....

Tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 14th, Michael is on 20/20 with John Stossel to debate the Canadian Health Care system. I read that there will be a Canadian doctor on to discuss his experiences. You can be sure Stossel has found some greedy Canadian doctor who wants a for pay private system like in the U.S.A. and will try to present this as the typical doctor's attitude. Michael can squelch Stossel and the doctor fast if he just points out the fact that Canadians want to keep our system! There are polls in this country that say we want this system. I know there was one about a year ago saying 93% of Canadians are in favour of keeping our socialized health care. If anyone out there knows how to get in touch with Michael, perhaps you could tell him this. I'm sure he could get hold of the polls or someone to talk on them.

2. I hope someone punches Stossel in the nose..just for the sheer joy of it.

Not Michael Moore..perhaps some Canadian doctor...

I always enjoyed hearing Al Franken rip Stossel to shreds.
The fact that the man still has a show on ABC tells a lot about the standards of that station.

I have always been amazed at the big holes in official news.

8. Oh, I'm sure many doctors want privatized health care in Canada
They'd LOVE to make the big bucks they pay in the States. So they're just a wee bit biased.

That said, the majority of doctors realize that health care would be cut off for millions if privatization takes place. Most believe in the current system.

9. Thank yo for this post
I know they (the media) try to make your system seem second rate, but compared to ours its first rate in my book. This comes from being one of the 47 or 48 million Americans who have no health insurance. I am having to rely on charity to get health care.

17. I don't think Moore really knows how evil "Stuffel" is.
Or, his unfortunate need for personal publicity is outweighing what would be sensible caution for the rest of us. Maybe he's waiting for Stossel to do his hatchet job and respond on his web site...which only 5 percent of the audience viewing the hatchet job will watch. Stossel sure ain't going to plug the URL of an honest American.

I think Moore will be screwed, blued, and tattooed. With a concentration camp number, by Stossel.

16. "They" spout these horrific 'wait times' to see a specialist in Canada/England but have they polled
the wait times here in the US?

My mother needed to see a heart specialist just this past six weeks as referred by her doctor. My sister made the call to the "Michigan Heart" facility only to be told the first appointment available was in 9 weeks.

After several calls between Michigan Heart and the referring doctor, an appointment was made within the week.

I'm sure the 'rules were waived' once they realized that my mother is an insurance 'cash cow' where all of her procedures are 100% covered (thank you Operating Engineers Union).

No, if it were I without insurance...I wouldn't even be allowed to sit in the lobby.

21. Stossel is being an AH tonight! Have any of you ever gone to a
doctor just because you had insurance and could spend someone elses money?????? Have you EVER ASKED for a procedure that your Dr. didn't recommend, just because...????

How the hell can he compare HC ins. with something so absurd as food insurance?????

I don't live in Canada, and I don't know anyone who does, but A sure have seem MANY posts on DU where Candadians have said THEY love in HC they have!

I'm sure in every system there are some situations you could point to and say "SEEEEE!!!!! I told ya!" But if this were the standard, I'm sure I would have heard about it by now.

The other thing I would like to tell Stossel is that when he asked all those Americans if they were happy with their Health insurance and they said yes, did he ask them if they ever had to USE IT???? See, I always would have said I was happy with my HC too, until I broke my leg last Sept. Yes, I received all the treatment I should have, and I was very pleased with it too! THEN I started receiving all the bills! I could have lived with the $100 copay I had to pay because they didn't keep me overnight. BUT everybody bills you separately! The bills totaled $2,500, and the only reason the # stopped there is because there is a cap on the amount of out of pocket expenses you must pay per year. Funny thing was, in January, the Dr. said he had to take the pin out of the one side. Of course because it was a new year, the deductibles and out of pocket started all over again and it was another $580! I can live with th $25 office visit copay, and even the $100 ER charge if they don't keep you overnight, but I can't afford $2,500 every year! Now if someone asks if I'm satisfied with my HC Insurance, I don't answer yes!!!

22. Did you notice Stossel never confronted Moore with any of the so-called
statistics or situations he ascribed to Canada's health care system? Michael Moore never had a chance to refute anything! The only thing Stossel said that was honest was that most Canadians like their system. That really should tell you all you need to know about whether our system works. The greedy Canadian doctor, who no doubt would like to be making more money and the woman who went to the States for treatment (of course there will occasionally be people who fall through the cracks in a big country like this) do NOT represent the majority of our population. Stossel misrepresented the waiting times too. For serious or emergency situations people get prompt treatment. Most doctors are supportive of our system. This whole disgusting commercial for for-profit health care Stossel presented was nothing but a bad joke!

23. I only caught a few pieces of this and my reaction to this program
would be to run away from anyone in favor of a not for profit system. Those poor people in Canada, we have insurance so who cares about the close to 100 million uninsured or underinsured.

:sarcasm:

24. His comparisons were beyond brainless.
When they showed the free beef giveaway, they should have then set up a line for free colonoscopys (or is it colonoscopies?) to see how many people showed up. The show was absurd. As was the use made of Michael Moore. He was trotted out just to lure his fans to the show, then his Sicko info was ignored.

How glib for people to sit there and talk about how much better it is when people use their own money when purchasing health care. What do they think people without insurance are doing -- until they no longer have any money to spend on health care. If it's so great to be using one's own money, why are people like breast cancer patient featured on the show suffering so much?

And how did Blue Cross get permission to give a TV show that man's medical information regarding his seeing a doctor about what turned out to be a tumor? Isn't the release of medical information against the law?
