It seems as though Bush is always revising the definition of our "mission" in Iraq. He combines the word "progress" and "mission" in slightly different contexts in just about every speech. It's hard to imagine any rational person listening to him repeat this mantra ad nauseum without wondering what's going on.
Bush: “Our cause is just, the security of the nations we serve and the peace of the world. And our "mission" is clear, to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, to end Saddam Hussein’s support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people.” <3/22/03>
QUANTICO, Va., Sept. 14, 2007 (UPI) -- U.S. President George W. Bush Friday lunched with U.S. Marines at Quantico, taking the opportunity to press his position on troop levels in Iraq. Bush's lunch with the Marines was closed to the media but he briefed reporters afterward, saying he told his audience he would listen to recommendations of the military and---Our commanders will have the flexibility and the troops needed to achieve the "mission" to Iraq.
