First, what concerns me most are the motivations behind writing such a report. I may well be incorrect or out of line on this specific (news?) item. The word ‘obvious’ is subjective. What one sees as obvious may not be at all visible to another. I do, however, see a pattern in how news reports like this are evidence of an attempt to spoon feed people more bullshit in order to convince them that there are boogiemen in the world who we should be afraid of. I am especially skeptical about bad press aimed at any of the countries B*sh has sited as being part of his axis of evil.
The “Obvious Pattern” that I refer to in my previous post has to do with the not so coincidental flood of negative news reports that begin circulating against supposed undesirable activities of a country deemed uncooperative (Axis of Evil) by the US or Israel. The US and Israeli interests overlap so much it is, at times, hard to differentiate the two. These reports seem to coincide with the desire of the US and/or Israeli government(s) as they/it attempt to bully the uncooperative country into submission. We saw this in the months before the US attacked Iraq, and we see it being used with Iran. Furthermore, if the US or Israel can use these negative reports from media outlets along with so called intelligence to paint a targeted country in an unfavorable enough light prior to a preemptive strike that act may appear just.
It is extremely convenient for Syria to be seen as a bad, naughty boy, er….I mean, country at this time for the US and Israel. Check this… it’s all about leverage.
Ex-UN envoy: IAF action in Syria is 'message to Iran' over nukes

Former United Nations ambassador John Bolton said Sunday that Israel's reported military operation inside Syria earlier this month should be regarded as a 'clear message to Iran' that its nuclear efforts will not be ignored by the international community.
"I think it would be unusual for Israel to conduct a military operation inside Syria other than for a very high value target, and certainly a Syrian effort in the nuclear weapons area would qualify," Bolton told Channel 10 in an interview broadcast Sunday.
"I think this is a clear message not only to Syria, I think it's a clear message to Iran as well, that its continued efforts to acquire nuclear weapons are not going to go unanswered," Bolton said
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/903949.htmlDick Cheney would love to bomb the hell out of Iran right this instant but I think Russia and/or China have got Ahmadinejad's back and Dick knows it. There would be serious repercussions for the US but not so much if we decided to mess with Syria.
