Has anyone ever explained clearly why....
we are holding debates and campaigning this early? Never before in our history has this happened. What is the rush? Is it because everyone is so anxious to get this nightmare of an administration out of there? Or is it 'Bread and Circus' for the amusement of the masses to distract them from the disaster that is about to happen...buying time to try to avoid it. :tinfoilhat:

1. Uh, you don't remember 2003, do you?
I remember campaigning in late 2002. In fact, that's when I started supporting Howard Dean. Hell, there were debates early in 2003.

So it has happened before. 4 years ago, in fact.

I had answered your post and had to delete in on second thought. I dont agree. There seems to be something more to this, and as early as this, they didnt hold debates this early. Has anyone ever explained why the rush?

7. They held them fairly early.
I'm not sure how early, but they were early. Why the rush? Because we're in a 24-hour news environment...something we never were in before.

The 1996 campaign started a bit earlier than the 1992 campaign. The 2000 campaign started even earlier than the 1996 campaign and the 2004 campaign was even earlier than the 2000 campaign. At this rate, we'll have people announce they're running for president the day after the 2008 election.

3. I fear it's the latter, though
the former is one of the reasons I'm focusing on it so much.

6. "Buying time to try to avoid it." Exactly.
Campaigns are big business. Lots of dough changing hands. Why not extend the season?
