Source of Funding Not Disclosed-Tobacco-

Please read this link first- it sounds like a good cause for children's healthcare.
What they don't tell you is the source of funding, not taxes across the board,
no- only taxes on tobacco.
This is dishonest and deceiving.

Dear Breeana,

I am for universal healthcare for all,including uninsured children.

However,I will not support any more legislation that puts the burden of funding solely on the backs of tobacco users.
Yes, it is very easy to target smokers and others who use tobacco.

But that doesn't make it right.

Californians have had their tobacco taxes increased by 130%.
Enough is enough!
The last attempt to increase tobacco taxes in CA failed to pass last November.
Maybe the voters are trying to say something here.

Everyone should be contributing to this healthcare initiate, not just one group
who is vilified.

Tobacco taxes should be doubled or tripled, or more, and the proceeds used not just to pay for the damage done by tobacco but also, as in California, to fund anti-tobacco efforts.

Enough is not nearly enough -- in fact, it is far, far from enough! I'm disappointed that California tobacco taxes have only increased 130% (from what base, we are not told). What a tragedy that the latest attempt to increase such taxes was not approved. Hopefully, a new attempt will pass.

I hate to sound like Mayor Daley (the original, not his son's pale imitation), but what's the alternative? Is there a competing plan or program? What should we do in the meantime while folks try to figure out something else, whatever that may be? Can the uninsured please try to hold off getting sick or injured for a while? I mean, it's just been 50 years or so, and heaven knows any nascent program that doesn't provide a complete solution or burden all citizens fairly is probably not even worth trying for. Let us, by all means, let the perfect be the mortal enemy of the good.

There is no counter proposal.

This one could be funded from taxes.
