Report on Nuke-Hauling Incident Delayed
Report on nuke-hauling incident delayed

By John Andrew Prime - Shreveport (La.) Times
Posted : Monday Sep 17, 2007 12:06:25 EDT

Even though Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne wanted a report about an Aug. 30 B-52 weapons-loading mistake on his desk by last Friday, it will take a little longer to generate, his office said.

“The investigation is ongoing and is expected to continue for at least the next several weeks,” Jennifer Bentley, a spokeswoman for Wynne’s office, said Sept. 14.

The incident occurred after a munitions crew at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., left nuclear warheads on six Advanced Cruise Missiles on a 2nd Bomb Wing bomber that returned to Barksdale Air Force Base.

Air Force Times broke the story Sept. 5. Within hours, the commander of the munitions squadron at Minot was relieved of all duties and the crews that loaded the missiles were decertified from such work.

HAS ANYONE HEARD ANYMORE DETAIL ON THIS EVENT?

2. How do you forget something like that?
Warheads? I don't see any warheads attached to those huge missiles! No siree bob! This could be huge, but won't make a splash - OJ is back in court, doncha know!

3. I've been looking into it further, but have been busy
I will post more on this story later roday. The truth is, the story just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.

Let's just say that the munitions crew would NEVER have loaded those weapons without orders.

Please tell us they weren't replaced with blackwater contractors!

8. One of the things I'm looking into is the use of contractors within the US
I caanot imagine any Air Force officers agreeing to private contractors at that level. Nor do I think it possible for contractors to aquire the necessary certification. But, we are talking BushCo here, so any damn thing is possible.

11. Rick
I have been following your hard work on this over the weeks and look forward to all of your posts. Thank you for your efforts.
Your avatar suggests you are Air Force, so do you have some inside contacts and info?
Now, here's what I know:
Wes Clark was on the Ed Schultz show today so I e-mailed Ed and asked if he would ask General Clark about the Minot B-52 and the cruise missiles. He did indeed ask and what was stunning was Wes Clark's answer.
Ed asked "how could this happen"? General Clark said he DID NOT KNOW.
He then went on to talk about a breakdown in procedure perhaps, but thought that was surely not likely and then paused for a long time and said "or maybe it wasn't a mistake". Holy crap.
That is shocking in it's implications, especially in light of when Gen. Clark was asked if this admin. was capable of attacking Iran and he said yes.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we have signed treaties that specifically prohibit nukes to be flown in any deployable configuration. Nuclear missiles hanging on pylons under a wing certainly meet that description.
Where are these missiles now? Is the unthinkable about to happen?
I need to listen to Ed's show again on delay and make sure I heard Wes Clark correctly.
His interview should be on about 1 pm PDT on AM 1090 Seattle.

15. I'll check out that interview online, Thanks!
I am ex-Air Force. I have about 5-6 folks I've been talking to, a crew chief, several retired officers with different specialties. When I served, I did not handle nuclear weapons, but was assigned to some very tiny bases that stored nuclear weapons. EVERYONE on these bases knew the drill. We ran drills to simulate various events regarding such weapons.

Everyone I have spoken to says the same thing. This could NOT happen by accident. There would be orders... The aircraft's crew chief and pilot would do a walk-around and KNOW what their plane was carrying. There are rules about how long a crew person can even be around such devices due to radiation exposure.

You are correct that since the weapons were on pylons, they could have, THEORETICALLY been used. There are hundreds of holes in this story.

No one can recall another such incident, EVER.

The Air Force stopped flying nuclear weapons on combat aircraft in 1968 after a series of 'accidents.' The planes were then kept on alert with flight crews ready 24/7.

7. This story scares the crap out of me. Why is the media so silent? NPR, AF Times,
HuffPo, TPM, Larry Johnson have all brought little details to light but the silence on the part of corporate media -including Countsdown (GET WELL KEITH) is very frightening.

Intriguing. A supposedly fail-safe security protocol failed. Man, I want to know the complete truth about this.

16. I think I posted this but not the link I saw it on HuffPuff a couple of days ago
One was found dead in Washington state, he had disappeared, BUT when they found him they said it was not suspicious, one was killed in a motorcycle crash, the one in Virginia Todd Davis, they said they didn't know the cause. But I am pretty sure they link said all six were dead.
