Waxman: Oversight Committee to Hold Hearings on Blackwater
Oversight Committee to Hold Hearings on Blackwater

Oversight Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman released the following statement this afternoon following the press accounts that Iraq had revoked the license of U.S. contractor Blackwater:

“The controversy over Blackwater is an unfortunate demonstration of the perils of excessive reliance on private security contractors. The Oversight Committee will be holding hearings to understand what has happened and the extent of the damage to U.S. security interests.”

7. You know there is a lot there the White House isn't going to let become public
This will be far worse than the Warrantless wiretapping when it comes to sandbagging and coverup.

9. Training ground
Iraq has not only become a training ground for "al Qaeda" and other insurgents, it is also a hands-on learning experience for private security armies, a central pillar of the corporatist militia-style approach so favored by the neocons.

Ask: where does this 100,000+ private army go post-Iraq? Dissolution of governmental military? Some other third world nation to spread more of their perverted action-movie violence? How about every street corner in America, and still as free from responsibility or justice as these murderous Blackwater jerks are in Iraq.

14. The last figure I heard was about 600 residents were gunned down by Blackwater
I have no way to corroborate this, but I know many people who saw the piles and piles of bodies after Blackwater made their sweeps through the neighborhoods. This is an ugly secret we are not supposed to report or talk about. Even some of the blogs I read were wiped clean after the storm.

Blackwater mercenaries deserve NO MERCY and should be tried for crimes against humanity.

17. I've heard lower figures too, like a few dozen.
Again, I have no way to corroborate this, but wether it's 48 or 600, it's all the same to me. We recently buried about a hundred unclaimed bodies in New Orleans.

Here is a trusted source (I know Doug):

City officials keep claiming lower and lower figures. Nagin is a liar. NO ONE here I know likes him or believes him:

13. I will be carefully watching this story unfold
Whether the current administration persuades the interior minister to allow Blackwater to remain will be the firt real test of whether the Iraq government is standing up to take control of their country.
