Bush setting America up for war with Iran

Bush setting America up for war with Iran

By Philip Sherwell in New York and Tim Shipman in Washington
Last Updated: 2:29am BST 17/09/2007

Senior American intelligence and defence officials believe that President George W Bush and his inner circle are taking steps to place America on the path to war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Pentagon planners have developed a list of up to 2,000 bombing targets in Iran, amid growing fears among serving officers that diplomatic efforts to slow Iran's nuclear weapons programme are doomed to fail.

Pentagon and CIA officers say they believe that the White House has begun a carefully calibrated programme of escalation that could lead to a military showdown with Iran.

...

In a chilling scenario of how war might come, a senior intelligence officer warned that public denunciation of Iranian meddling in Iraq - arming and training militants - would lead to cross border raids on Iranian training camps and bomb factories.

A prime target would be the Fajr base run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force in southern Iran, where Western intelligence agencies say armour-piercing projectiles used against British and US troops are manufactured.

2. French foreign minister is serving as the echo.
So they're cranking up the war machine. Hang on tight to whatever you love, guys. I don't think there's much hope.

War may be called for in Iran
2007-09-17 07:20:00.0

PARIS, Sep 16, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The world should be ready to go to war with Iran over its nuclear weapons program if diplomacy fails, the French foreign minister said Sunday.

"We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war," Bernard Kouchner told French media, the BBC reported.

War would be justified, Kouchner said, because a nuclear weapon in the hands of Iran would be "a danger for the whole world."...

3. Don't you mean the Democrats are?
ElBaradei Accuses Democrats of Distorting Iran Nuclear Data
Meanwhile Congressional Democrats are being accused of drafting a misleading and erroneous report on Iran's nuclear program. ElBaradei said the Congressional report – released by Democratic Congressman Rush Holt of New Jersey -- contained serious distortions of the IAEA's own findings on Iran's nuclear activity. The report claimed Iran had enriched uranium to weapons-grade level when the IAEA had only found small quantities of enrichment at far lower levels.

Obama, Hillary, and Edwards have all given their wink and nod to AIPAC for a war on Iran.

VOTE KUCINICH!

which seems to have been responsible for spreading this incorrect story around the internet. Yes, that's right, people, get something wrong on DU, and you'll find it taken up as truth by both DemocraycNow and by right-wing sites. Please, please read the dates on stories before you post them. DU has started a smear anginst the Democrats, and is still propagating it, because we can't be bothered to check what we're saying. Hopeless, isn't it?

8. Wrong
The IAEA response was only leaked recently.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5346524.stm

Also, it is not a smear against the Democrats. That type of polarization is what made Ol' George what he is today. Invulnerable to criticism or improvement. Fact is, we have some pro-war presidential candidates and it needs to be made plain where they stand:

Hillary Clinton:
"U.S. policy must be clear and unequivocal: We cannot, we should not, we must not permit Iran to build or acquire nuclear weapons," the Democrat told a crowd of Israel supporters. "In dealing with this threat ... no option can be taken off the table."

Barack Obama:
"The world must work to stop Iran's uranium enrichment program and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. It is far too dangerous to have nuclear weapons in the hands of a radical theocracy,"

John Edwards:
"It's important for America to confront the situation in Iran, because Iran is an enormous threat to Israel and to the Israeli people."

We need to do this because we need to stand with those who promote truth and peace:

13. It will be the third war of this administration
This time started in the face of public opinion, which is dead against it.

A third war. Think about it. And the two started already aren't going well at all. Who are the members of 'President George W Bush inner circle ' and who are the 'Pentagon and CIA officers' that are breaking these news, I wonder.

What will happen in the US in case of an attack on Iran, is maybe even more interesting ;-)
