I am a minister affiliated with a Unitarian Universalist congregation. Our typical Sunday order of service includes a "Congregational Response" portion of the worship service right after the title of the sermon. If I do not have at least two people tell me some portion of my sermon was 'full of shit' I do not feel I have done my job. I find it irresponsible and unnerving if no one utters a sound once I have shut my mouth.
In a representative democracy our elected representatives should feel the same. If someone is castigated for asking a question...we have no representative democracy. It doesn't get any plainer than that.
