So, what are Kerry up to these days?
It's bound to be something interesting, because this episode wasn't coincidential. Kerry isn't a candidate for presidency and although the election 2004 was fraudulent IMHO, people are mostly interested in the upcoming 2008 election these days. Consider also the fact that official Democrats have done a lot to repair the democratic process since 2004, so this heckling seems a bit last year. Or the year before that.

I think the demonstrations against Dems by Code Pink and the anti-war activists are sound and democratic. They need to be reminded that people are very worried today. Usually both Dems and demonstrators get their message through anyway, without people being tasered. I don't mind the odd political heckling at all; somebody once had the decency to throw a shoe at Richie Perle, as I recall.
It's in the crosshairs between doing something useful and standing up for your rights and speak your mind, the safety of the person speaking, and the right of the rest of the crowd to hear what they came to hear.
If somebody had fired a gun at Perle, it would _not_ have been okay. It's all in the methods of doing political work. And of course, methods in doing police work.
Police does not seem to have any problem getting Code Pink out of the way without tasering them, so why this episode?
It seems construed to me--the show off shouting me, me, me, I, I, I, while refusing to actually engage the senator verbally.

Kerry's been pretty outspoken against the war, and a possible escalation of the war into Iran. Can this be a reason?

1. Maybe it's just me, mogster, but this culture seems to be
being militarized, more and more every day. The ugly side of nationalism. The boots.

3. Mark Crispin Miller said that as far as elections go,
we are all now black in America. In other words, everyone is now subject to the same dirty tricks the black community has always been subject to. I think he is right.

And lately, I'm more in mind of the Warsaw Ghetto. Daily, people where hauled away. Daily, neighbors were asked to collaborate in the most intimate ways -- like the jewelers who had to comb dentures for precious metals. A very few never gave up and we know what happened to them. But lately, I'm thinking of the way those people tried and failed to survive the predators all around them.

Not a happy thought, but this is Bush's Amerika. I don't put anything passed these bastards.

4. Yeah. I feel black in the world today
And I'm pretty happy about it for every other reason than that which you mentioned :-) I am a huge fan of multi-culture.

If this is propaganda, who knows which audience it's meant for? I usually put a lot of weight on how the DU reacts. If it splits us, it's propaganda, if we (more or less) agree, it's genuine. I like Pelosi, I like Cindy Sheehan, I have no problems with their disagreement, they are two parts of the same democracy.

This episode has been richly covered in the Norw. paper Dagbladet.
http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2007/09/18/512488.html

Usually, you can't even buy media time for Dems in this paper, and they regularily suppress info about other demo's against Dems, like when Code Pink or Cindy Sheehan tries to get media coverage. And the anti-war demonstration pics are also suppressed. But this episode they covered, in technicolor and with so many pics, even video. Now, during the 2004 election, they came out as Bush-shills, introducing conservative bloggers and calling Kerry a 'transvestite'. Since then, their paper has turned into a FOX-like rag, not even bothering to hide their bias anymore. It's the paper for, and by, the Progress party--with Karl Rove sitting on their shoulder.

Strange thing for the so-called 'liberal' Norw. media to support Bush, no? It's going on across the spectrum here. I do compare Norway more and more to Venezuela; with media solidly biased towards the conservatives and against the elected (supposedly socialist) government.

Anyhow, this Kerry episode smells fishy.

5. Yes, the kid was even holding Greg Palast's book. Like a prop.
Something's off, here. Why were they covering Kerry -- he's not even running.

Isn't anything for real anymore? Staging a stunt to get self attention, that seems a waste of a good stunt in these times, if you ask me ;-)

I'm thinking of borrowing those glasses from Steph's mom again and start adressing the Am. people as the Norwegian Election nerds in youtube videos, if they don't let Kerry alone now. Beware! :-E
