Please, please, please someone get a screen capture of this headline and send it to Media Matters:

Fan Frenzy: O.J. Simpson Smiles and Sniggers From Sin City

Thursday, September 20, 2007

By Hollie McKay

From jailbird to bailbird, O.J Simpson was given the star-studded treatment Wednesday as he soared from Sin City.

The former footballer dished out $125,000 Wednesday morning to depart the dungeon and boarded US Airways flight #888 on coach class from Las Vegas to Fort Lauderdale, departing at 4:10 p.m. EDT.

However, Simpson’s wait at the airport became a fan festivity to rival his football days.

I'm SURE the fact the 'n' word is part of that word had NOTHING to do with the choice of using it :sarcasm:

There ARE NO 'MISTAKES' in either Fox "News" or Nazi Propaganda.

They share that.

Isn't it funny how Nazi "mistakes" only ever seemed to negatively affect the Liberals, Jews, and Gays?

Isn't it funny how Bushie "mistakes" only ever seemed to negativelyaffect the Liberals, Democrats, and Gays?

anyone actually saying "snigger," having only read it, and run across it rarely in reading.

HA! Just as I thought. I just went to m-w.com because I wanted to check my hunch it's an archaic word. Look:

Main Entry: 1snig·ger
Pronunciation: \ˈsni-gər\
Function: intransitive verb
Inflected Form(s): snig·gered; snig·ger·ing \-g(ə-)riŋ\
Etymology: by alteration
Date: circa 1706

~~~~~~~
Whatever it is which moved them to use it was almost surely cheap and ugly, just what you'd expect from Fox.
35. Okay, meet the one freak...
who actually uses that word in conversation!
I got it from Eliza Doolittle, who asks Freddy, "Are you sniggering at me?" in "My Fair Lady" at the horse race. When a friend is laughing at something I've done, I always ask them if they are "sniggering" at me. :)
I am really shocked so many people do not realize it is an actual word --archaic, yes, but real.
But the true meaning of that word is not the issue - it's the way they used it and I guarantee you they knew what they were doing.
76. Okay, so tput yourself in the place of the Fox News editor.
You can use either "snicker" or "snigger" in reference to a person's response to a question.
Which do you choose? I would absolutely choose "snicker" even though I'm well familiar with both terms. Clarity, appropriatemess, nothing lost in the meaning, and highly unlikely to be the least bit suspect.
So, which does Fox News Editor Kelly Rupert use? Explain your answer in detail, if you would.
It's likely most people don't really know what it means, since it ordinarily is not used.
People DO respond to VISUAL cues instinctively. We all know that, like the Cuban "exile" right-wing campaign strategist piece of crap, Alex Castellanos, when he created the visual cue, "DemocRAT" during Al Gore's Presidential campaign.
So it's your position that the word was in common use the year it was first recorded, and was only a covert racial slur ever since? I mean, I've heard some silly linguistic theories, but that one's kind of past silly.
I gave a link in which you can see dozens of uses of that word in papers in the last week. Just because the word might be useful for a secret hate campaign, that does not mean that presence of the word is evidence for a hate campaign.
41. snigger and niggardly have NO race basis....
I believe both words, perfectly useable and descriptive are from mid or old english. Race, or human origin ar whatever are not in their lineage.
Unfortunately in todays less than literate society, words get corrupted by 'sounds' like 3-4 year old children do, or they are simply hijacked for other purposes such as 'gay', I do no forgive the homosexual community fro usurping that word, there simply is not a satisfactory replacement. Fairy was also destroyed fro common use until finally someone got cute and started using the variant 'Faere' or some such.
Anywho don't get your knickers knotted over how a word sounds, find out its meaning. In fact that is THE way to handle the ignoramouses at FOX, correct their goddam grammer for them...while pointing at them and laughing hysterically! Gair-own-tee they will not like that one eensy bit!
snigger
1706, variant form of snicker (q.v.).
Of course, part of the meaning of a word is the speaker's intention. There's no reason to make a benign assumption about that.
57. Come on!
OK, the word LOOKS like an offensive word. But it's not. So we are no longer allowed to use a legitimate word when we describe a black person?
That's like the incident in DC a few years back when an aide got in trouble for using the word niggardly. Because people didn't know what it meant.
The English language is equal opportunity. Black people can snigger. And black people can act niggardly.
We can't start cutting words out of the language because they LOOK like bad words.
