Signing off for a while
But hopefully not for long. I go in tomorrow for back surgery - lumbar laminectomy w/fusion of 1, maybe 2 vertebra levels. I've been in severe pain about 2 1/2 yrs., with only a 6 mo. respite, when the pain returned with a vengeance after the march in DC in Jan. I should be home by this time next week (hopefully by Wed. or Thurs.), and with my laptop and wireless connection, will check back in as soon as I'm able (depending on how much of a drug store they send me home with!).

I love DU! I am going to go into some serious withdrawal. I'm not a serial poster LOL!, but I read the boards every day.

TTFN! (geez, now I sound like my 11 yo. tweenager!)

9. Good luck to you.. My son has a 9 inch scar from his spinal laminectomy
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 06:38 AM by SoCalDem
He had it done in March '05, and just yesterday we watched him playing tug of war, football & soccer at the company picnic..pain free..

Just do the rehab faithfully & follow the dr's orders & you'll be fine.. (our "kid" will be 29 this December)

 to you :)

here are a few pics (about a week after surgery..the swelling went down in a few month's time..

12. Did he also have fusion?
How long was his recovery? I'm a "bit" older than your son, so hopefully I'll do just as well, but probably will take longer.

My goal is by next summer to be able to bounce on the trampoline that santa brought our girls last year. No flips or other wild tricks, just bouncing :).

13. He had 3 fused, i think, and they had to build little wire cages
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 06:51 AM by SoCalDem
for bone grafting.. It was a VERY major injury he had.. He was starting to have paralysis in one leg..

He was a passenger in a T-Bone car accident, and was lucky to be alive, but his back was very badly injured..

This was a very severe injury to a guy who was a star soccer player, golfer, tennis player, football player.. He knows he will be limited for life (a bit), but he's happy to be able to walk, sit, stand, work, and even play a bit..:)

The thing that bothers him the most? He bought some very expensive golf clubs the week of the accident, and has never played with them..and never will.. Golf is the biggest no-no..
