1. They have McCain at 5:1, so I wouldn't take them too seriously.
They also have Ron Paul at 8:1. He has no chance in the primary, much less the general.

3. While I'd love to see Al Gore run, some perspective in the odds
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 01:00 PM by mcscajun
which are of a general election victory by the candidate:

Hillary Clinton: 2-1
Rudy Guiliani: 3-1
Fred Thompson: 4-1
John McCain: 5-1
John Edwards: 6-1
Al Gore: 6-1
Ron Paul: 8-1
Barack Obama: 7-2

The odds of candidates not listed were way too long to even contemplate: some candidates (both popular here at DU and very much UNPopular) were at 100-1 or 200-1.

4. The Ron Paul 8:1 doesn't make much sense. Maybe the bookies are just hedging.

5. Here in Texas
The only stickers I have seen have been for Ron Paul.
The only billboard I have seen is for Ron Paul.
People ARE ready for something different.
Don't let the media tell you anything different.

Don't let Ron Paul tell you anything different.

9. I know what he is
my point is that people want change.
He appears to many on the conservative side to be that change.

11. The polls don't represent what people want
and he obviously isn't a media darling.
However, people with bumper stickers and billboards in their yard do say something about what the PEOPLE are thinking.

13. Ah, yes, anecdotal evidence in one small part of the country trumps all.
Not to mention that this overwhelming anecdotal evidence is in the same state the guy represents. Yeah, that's indicative of massive national interest.

27. Very well put, TwilightZone
I always find it interesting when people tell me "Everyone in my family wants (insert name here) to win the nomination" as if that bit of information should be taken to the bank. Anecdotal evidence is of interest, of course, but it does not prove much.

34. He is huge here too
I am amazed by the ground swell of support for Ron Paul here. He has billboards. I also see more Ron Paul bumper stickers and yard signs that I see for any other candidate. No I don't think he will get the nomination. But you can't dismiss his supporters. There are a ton of them and they are really pushing him.

23. Based on odds from a gambling site, no?
Where did the odds come from then? And just where then would people contribute to Mr. Gore per this page just based on a number, and how can they when he is not a candidate? These are odds run by bookies who make money from using peoples' name recognition to benefit themselves and those who want to see a Gore/Clinton knock down drag out and I think it is bs. But just another example of how out of touch some people are with issues as opposed to Bs.

running away with me...all those posts I have read about Gore jumping in in June, July, August (for sure), September et al. were all just fig-newtons of my imagination...but still, I must ask you, do you mean November 2007 or 2008?

I suspect you'll be very surprised come November of 2007. :)

I just don't believe he will. He has made no comments that he IS going to run. I just think there are lots of people who are wishful thinkers.

But November is "just around the corner" so we should soon find out who is wrong on the issue.

Also, did anyone notice how much money Hillary & Obama have? :wow:

Looks like they want to "buy" the presidency. Wonder how much of Obamas money is because of Oprah? Makes ya go hmmmmmmmmmm

20. It might be because of her show and the use of her name in fundraising
but according to records, Oprah hasn't given his campaign a penny.
I was surprised on that one.
Obama has a lot of $5 and $10 donors. That is where the bulk of his money has come from if I am not mistaken.

22. Oprahs name is worth it's weight in gold. But I don't think that it will equal a win for Obama if
Gore runs. Gore is just too popular and he has the right message and direction most of America is concerned with right now-Global warming.
