The religious right hates us for our freedom!

When I heard this song (that was a big hit with the far right Republicans) I couldn't help but think of the comments I heard uttered by many Republicans. "They hate us for our freedoms".


It didn't generate much in the way of media attention this week, but a bunch of religious right groups co-sponsored the first-ever "Values Voter" debate a few days ago for the GOP presidential field. The top four (Giuliani, Romney, McCain, and Thompson) stayed away, but seven other Republican presidential hopefuls cozied up to luminaries such as Phyllis Schlafly, Paul Weyrich, and Don Wildmon.

Event organizers invited the Church of God Choir, from Springfield, Ohio, to sing "God Bless America" -- except the lyrics were rewritten. Instead of a song about "the land that I love," and "home sweet home," this version condemns the country, saying we've all turned against God, and that He won't bless us. It was a big hit among the conservative Republicans in the room.

I am a Christian, you may or may not be one yourself, because I too believe being religious has nothing to do with having faith. I have learned that churches want to get people to accept their structure and opinions of morals (morals based on their own opinions). I guess that's why many go to Catechism (Catholic), bible study at the Baptist church, or timed prayers at the mosques - they want structure. I believe in just following Christ's words, the rest is church dogma.

God bless us all for having to put up with their obsessive & controlling ways.

Huh? Jesus was not all light and love, unfortunately, according to the words recorded after his death by other people who were not there.

However, the conservatives have forgotten about the Sermon on the Mount, because they LOVE to judge other people. It makes them feel superior.

Yet they claim *they* are the patriots.

We have let them get away with this crap for too long. If we start calling them on their hatred of our nation and what it stands for, they will be treated like the lunatic outcasts they are.

i heard Ed Schultz's story of his process of political transformation, it took him years of fighting the obvious truth before he made the quantum jump in perception.. and kicked a right winger off his show brcause he was spewing hate and propaganda and became a democrat... fascinating story.

it only happened because of a medical condition that threatened the life of his mother.. and even then it took YEARS to finally kick in that the ReThugs are inherently evil. he might have changed only because a little Democrat DNA sneaked in the blood line somewhere down the line...

I don't know how they get away with calling us anti-American when they're the ones singing songs like this and protesting soldiers' funerals
