The Lieberman-Kyl disaster is four horrendous votes in a week. The only thing different since Harry Reid started running the Senate is that the opposition to the war gets to speak its piece before the Demopub leadership gives Bush exactly what he wants. In this case, just enough of a fig leaf to make the Dems share the blame for nuking Iran.
It looks to me like America is over. There is a veto-proof majority (GOP and DLCers)for defeating any vaguely progressive foreign policy bill or resolution. We are now going to do something suicidal as a democracy and as a nation - attack a third country in six years, the last two for no other reason than that they are sitting on top of "our oil".
And this time, its a country we have messed with twice before in the last fifty years: by CIA coup against the elected president in 1953, and by supporting Saddam Hussein in his invasion and eight(?) year war with Iran in the 1980s. Three strikes, and we are out - out of the book of democracy.
Someone show me how to fight back against this WITHIN THE RULES. How do we stop this war WITHIN THE ACCEPTED BOUNDARIES OF POLITICS?
I would be really happy to help out if someone showed me how.
When somebody with the knowledge and experience of Daniel Ellsberg says its going to be hard, if not impossible,
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2007/092607a.htmlI really don't understand how there can be any topic at DU other than stopping the madmen who want to destroy our country with an Iran War - well before any election can stop them.
