Kuwait could go it alone with Chinese oil deals

Kuwait is considering dropping Royal Dutch Shell as a partner in a project to build a US$5 billion oil refinery in Guangdong in China.

The refinery would be one of the largest joint venture investments in China, similar in size to the US$5 billion refinery to be built by Exxon Mobil and Saudi Aramco in Fujian.

Shell had hoped to be a part of the Guangdong plant after an attempt to take a share in another refining project failed last year.

According to the Kuwaiti’s, China's National Development and Reform Commission does not want Shell involved.
