Forget the cute stuff from Biden and the rest who still believe they can take advantage of the repression of our military occupying forces and cow the Iraqis into accepting our paternalistic partitioning of their country according to some frickin American dandy who thinks he can tell what's best for Iraq from his privileged catbird seat in Washington. Just get our troops out of there.

What did they really expect the advantaged exiles they enabled into power in Iraq to say when they began dictating their Potemkin democracy down to them? Obviously the Maliki regime has just one use for our nation's own defenders, and that's to strike out at any and all Iraqis who resist his military-enabled rule. He wants to lord over ALL of Iraq . . . behind the sacrifices of our soldiers.

Iraq PM rejects U.S. Congress call for federalism

BAGHDAD, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said on Friday a U.S. Senate resolution calling for the creation of separate Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish federal regions in Iraq would be a disaster for his country.

"They should stand by Iraq to solidify its unity and its sovereignty," Maliki told Iraqi state television on his flight back from the United Nations General Assembly.

"They shouldn't be proposing its division. That could be a disaster not just for Iraq but for the region."

Maliki also called on the Iraqi parliament to meet and respond formally to the non-binding resolution, passed by the Senate on Wednesday, which called for the creation of "a federal system of government and ... federal regions".

The Senate resolution urged U.S. President George W. Bush to seek international support for such a political settlement and convene a conference with Iraqis to help them reach it.

"We reject this decision," Maliki said.

1. "This proposal was based on the incorrrect reading of Iraq's past, present and future"
Iraqi parties denounce splitting country

BAGHDAD—Representatives of Iraq's major political parties on Sunday strongly denounced a U.S. Senate proposal calling for a limited centralized Iraqi government with the bulk of the power given to the country's ethnically divided regions.

The groups, which represented both Shiites and Sunnis, said the plan would hamper Iraq's future stability, and they suggested parliament draft a law permanently banning the splitting of Iraq along sectarian or ethnic lines.

"This proposal was based on the incorrrect reading and unrealistic estimations of Iraq's past, present and future," according to the statement read by Izzat al-Shahbandar, a representative of the Iraqi National List, a secular political party.
