Woman turns in bag stuffed with $65,000
Woman turns in bag stuffed with $65,000
Fri Oct 5, 6:58 AM ET

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A county garbage operations employee found a
plastic bag on the road stuffed with $65,000 Thursday — and immediately
turned it in to authorities.

It turned out the money had fallen off a Loomis armored car half an
hour before Debbie Cole found it near the Pinellas County solid waste
operations facility where she works. First she thought it was a turtle
in the road.

The 53-year-old Largo woman found the bag just before 7 a.m., full of
enough $50 and $100 bills to pay her salary for two years. She immediately
contacted a supervisor, who called deputies.

It's not clear how the bag fell from the truck, said Mark Clark, spokesman
for Loomis, a Houston-based cash-handling company.

2. "Fell off a Loomis armored Car". Why does that sound FISHY to me?
What, are they stacking bags on the hood?

Something is VERY odd about that story.

6. Not many of us would be that stupid.
Maybe its just me, but I would have had alot of fun spending the banks money.
Believe me, they have alot of fun spending mine.
Go ahead, I've got my flame-proof suit on.

9. those bags have tracking devices in them so even if one were to keep the money
it would most likely be found. Hats off to that woman though.

13. It happened here in Chicago several years ago...
Several bags dumped out on the highway, I-94 if I remember correctly. I remember two ambulance drivers turned in a couple bags containing 300k. Several bags never made it home. I remember the police trying to bluff the public by saying "we have plate numbers." LOL.

I'm sure it happens more often than we realize. With hundreds? thousands? of trucks making pickups every day, it makes sense someone is bound to get careless from time to time and leave a door unlatched or a bag on a bumper.

18. Me too. I cant quite figure out why they would be near a waste facility.
Around here, they aren't sitting next to banks or places that would need armoured car service.

Good for her for turning it in though. I would have.

3. I wonder who was supposed to have found that bag?
Good for that woman. I nominate her for POTUS, for the sheer honesty that our politicians seem to be lacking these days.

7. That's just what I'm thinking as well.
Since when does Loomis transport cash in PLASTIC bags, anyway?
Sounds like they DISGUISED it before they "accidentally lost" it.

I think that was a botched payoff. Someone was SUPPOSED to find
that bag, it just wasn't her.

You're a better person than I, for I'd be very tempted to keep the money.

10. It was a smart thing she did...
What if that money had been counterfeit? Or if it had been marked by authorities? I hope someone rewards Ms Cole for doing the right thing.

15. A friend of mine found a bag of money ( $ 5,000. )
He called me up to ask what I thought he ought to do. Before I could offer to come get it, he had to hang up. Later that day he stopped by to tell me his supervisor came to see if anyone had found a passengers missing satchel, and he turned it in. We later learned it had been a rouse...United airlines was testing him and others in his department because of a rash of previous thefts.

That was nearly thirty years ago and he still works there...as a supervisor.

Ya just never know.

16. 65k in a plastic bag?

I would have popped that in my car without a second thought. Why is it that only the people WITHOUT money are expected to be honest?

So many friends and family going through some very rough times right now. Yeah, I know; not an excuse.

Maybe someone out there can drop off a $65k bag in front of my house tonight.
As a test.
