.... according to the Chicago Tribune, "Sunday's high temperature could reach into the upper 80s, exceeding the existing record 86(degrees) high set on this date back in 1947."
OK, so we're complaining about the heat, but today didn't even match the record high from 1997, and tomorrow's high MIGHT match the high from 60 years ago.
Sorry, that doesn't sound like cause for alarm to me.
In fact, if you look at a table of Chicago's record temps, (like this one:
http://weather.msn.com/daily_averages.aspx?wealocations=wc:USIL0225&weai=10 ), you'll see that they were set in the following years:
Month Record Low Record High
1-Oct 38° (1958) 92° (1971)
2-Oct 35° (1974) 89° (1971)

30-Oct 27° (1988) 83° (1950)
31-Oct 30° (1993) 84° (1950)
Funny, isn't it? Most of the record LOWS were set in the 70s, 80s, or 90's, but most of the record highs were set in the 40s, 50s, or 60s. According to that, it looks like Chicago is getting COOLER.
