Chris Matthews: "If they accuse of me of being partisan, I'll go rip! "

http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlDC/networks/matthews_on_matthews_68595.asp

On today's "Morning Joe," Joe Scarborough asked Chris Matthews if Republican candidates would try to get a "cheap applause line" tonight by pointing to his recent controversial comments.

Said Matthews:

I've been thinking about that....It's not my stage tonight. I don't have much standing to retort in real time.

However, I do have one sensitive point and that is, I don't mind being wrong -- I try to be right. I don't mind somebody saying I'm not fair -- I try to be fair. ... If someone says I'm not independent, it's going to be very hard for me to bite my tongue. ...

For twenty years I've paid the price of indepdendence. I've taken it from everybody ... every night of my life for the past twenty years. ...

If they accuse of me of being partisan, I'll go rip! ...

It's not about me, it's about them and who's going to be president during these difficult times.

1. Fish. Barrel. Boom.
April 9, 2003: "We're all neo-cons now." - Chris Matthews

May 1, 2003: "We're proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who's physical, who's not a complicated guy like Clinton or even like Dukakis or Mondale, all those guys, McGovern. They want a guy who's president. Women like a guy who's president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. It's simple. We're not like the Brits." - Chris Matthews again

May 1, 2003 again: "What's the importance of the president's amazing display of leadership tonight? Here's a president who's really nonverbal. He's like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes West. He looks for real. What is it about the commander in chief role, the hat that he does wear, that makes him -- I mean, he seems like -- he didn't fight in a war, but he looks like he does." - Chris Matthews again

You were saying something, Chris...?

15. also being on the Tonight show and saying
"I hope Giuliani becomes President."

He should rip, if they accuse him of being anti-Republican, after all the shilling he has done for them.

5. Since the Republicans are dedicated to calling every Republican figure to the left of
Rush LImbaugh a Partisan liberal, every media figure can move as far right as they want - and Matthews has clearly taken advantage of this "opportunity."

7. Oh, I bet those nasty rethuglicans are quaking in their boots.
Tweety is going to wrip thomebody.

In his dreams on his best night. In his own mind Tweety is all thunder and lightning and storms of "truth" when actually he is just a little puff of nothing going wherever the breeze takes him. And he is partisan - not to any particular party but to himself. He is on TV to massage his own pathetic ego and he even does a terrible job at that.

Have you noticed Tweety is appearing everywhere all of a sudden? He is pimping his show, throwing himself a party, pushing a "sad" little book in an effort, in my opinion, to try and catch up with Keith. Tweety thinks he is the real journalist and Keith is just a sportscaster. Poor ol' Tweets is stunned that Keith is so popular and respected while Tweety wins awards from Media Matters for the Most Misinformation in a year. Notice there were no discussions on whether Keith could do a good job or not when he hosted a debate. Everyone knew Keith was up to the task. Tweety doesn't enjoy that kind of respect. Keith was professional from start to finish. Tweety should sit down, shut up and take notes from the Master.

12. according to a blurb on MSNBC the republic debate tonight
is suppose to focus on economic issues

as I'm going to a Crosby-Nash concert tonight - I won't be able to watch the debate

I will offer my predictions as to the "themes"

- maintain and/or expand bush tax cuts
- variations of trickle down
- no help for homeowners with mortgage fiasco, but rather bailouts for the mortgage companies
- economy is doing great, more jobs have been created, wouldn't change a thing
- people have to stand on their own two feet (unlike Iraq where we stand around for them waiting for them to stand up)
- national healthcare would hurt the insurance companies, people would lose jobs
- regulations hurt businesses by making them adhere to minimal health/safety standards, just look at TOPPS and all those people out of work
- fast-track trade agreements
- bring jobs home by shipping more jobs overseas

14. What a tool...
I saw that interview this morning and it was just too annoying for 7:30 a.m. He's got to be the smarmiest thing on MSNBC and, if he were any kind of a professional, would be worried about what to ask that sorry band of would-be war criminals at the debate tonight. Instead, he's thinking about me, Me, ME!!!!! I can't begin to describe how tired I am to hear about his "Hardball 10 Years" ya da ya da ya da and "Life is a Campaign". Ugh. What a self-involved piece of work is he.
