'24' Star Kiefer Sutherland (AKA Jack Bauer) ordered to go to jail for 30 days for DUI
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071009/ap_en_tv/kiefer_sutherland_7

LOS ANGELES - Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest Tuesday to a charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit and will serve 30 days in county jail under terms of a plea agreement.

Attorney Blair Berk entered the plea on behalf of Sutherland, who was not present.

As part of the arrangement, Sutherland must also enroll in an 18-month alcohol-education class and attend weekly alcohol-therapy sessions for six months.

The charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or higher stemmed from a traffic stop in Los Angeles last month.

A second misdemeanor charge, driving under the influence, was dropped.

Sutherland is already on probation for a 2004 drunken driving arrest. Superior Court Judge Stuart M. Rice revoked the actor's probation in that case.

3. What message about alcohol use...
...takes 18 months to convey? "Don't drink and drive! Class dismissed." Did I miss anything? Honestly, people get advanced degrees in less time than that. 18 months of someone pontificating about the evils of demon drink would drive me straight into the nearest bar.

I'm all in favor of stiff penalties for drunk drivers, but seriously.

8. Probably in lieu of an 18 month sentence...
he got 30 days (come ON) and the "class".

11. That's undoubtedly true, but I'd still be fascinated to know...
...what the "class" involves. If it's some kind of Clockwork Orange "reeducation" program that involves ultraviolent carcrash videos the participants are forced to watch while strapped to a chair and pumped full of psychotropic drugs, then it might do some good. If, on the other hand, it's just endless anti-booze prattle delivered in a monotone by that teacher from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, then it's basically just 18 months of detention, which I can't honestly see "reforming" anyone.

12. LOL! I doubt if they strap him to a chair...
It's probably the monotone chatter supplemented with the high school car crash movies.

9. Fuck that Tool..
Asswipe, sweaty, stage-whisperer of that propoganda program.

They used the first season to prop us up for The Day That Changed Everything.

And they have continued to cough up the same bile ever since.

14. OK... Still....
That was one of my Lost Years.

I was down on my luck and hanging out in one of those horrible hotels.

But I still remember thinking that 24 was psy-ops.

19. I always wonder the same thing
Especially when I see their driver picking them up from court. Granted, it's probably because they lost their license but why didn't they just get a limo in the first place? You're a millionaire, fergodssake, get a ride! IMHO there should be enhanced penalties for people like him.

20. Autonomy and Embarrassment
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 10:55 PM by Mike03
Nobody wants to feel overly dependent on others, and that is doubly true if you are going to be engaging in things you don't want others to see. Thirdly, is always the chance that your "driver" has a deal with the papparazi and is not trustworthy.

Also, there is a misconception that people with money don't think about overspending at all, and I don't think this is true. They want to spend money on some things, but feel it is wasteful to spend in on others, and frequently those priorities are screwed up by desires that are inexplicable.

Is it two divided thirty day sentences, scheduled around the shooting schedule?

On a random note, I was sorry to see your other discussion thread shut down. You are one person here who pays close attention to the true economic situation that faces our nation.
