I'm typing this underwater, re: global warming

So the propaganda concerning global warming works. Even here at DU, people are overly concerned with the idea that some day coastal areas will be flooded from the influx of melted glacial water. Rising ocean levels swamping coastal areas is the extreme least of all worries.

Let's talk about the rising temperature and humidity being a wonderful breeding ground for viruses. How about the real possibilities of a new pandemic?

The poles happen to be the earths air conditioning system. Less ice, more heat everywhere. The middle latitudes will become inhumanly hot. The quick rise in temp and humidity will kill all life who are not adapted to these conditions.

Ocean currents will shift from the greater amounts of fresh water. So climates will also shift. Again, all life will die because it has been adapted for a different environment.

The earth will become less reflective. More of the energy from the sun will stay here, further warming the planet. So this process will become accelerated.

My prediction:

Man will wage war. Man has been trained to attack no matter what the scenario. He already knows the enemy. The fundamentalists of the world will panic and know who to blame and who to kill. Here in sunny America, the fundys have been trained to hate liberals, the ACLU, homos, and Hillary. Fire up those death camps, Jesus is coming. Don't forget to acknowledge who will lead the charge. Dobson, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Bortz, Malkin, Savage, O'reilly, Robertson, etc.

1. I think you're got it exactly right.
Rising sea levels will only be one of many catastrophies.

I'm not underestimating the severity of a sea rise. After all, a huge portion of the world's people live along coastlines. I'm sure the devastation will be massive just from increased sea levels.

But I think the movement of diseases, infestations of bugs, death of food-chain plants, and death of cultivated crops are going to kill far more people.

I think storms are going to cause enough devastation to limit our ability to maintain infrastructure.

And religion will be the excuse to make it all worse and justify wars over resources.

2. Rising seas are slow
People have time to pack their bags and move to higher ground. But, the people living on higher ground won't want to help those lowlanders. This will cause war.

3. I don't think it will be all that slow at all.
Storm surges will drive people quickly and unexpectedly from low-lying areas. The problem won't start with constant flooding, but with sporadic flooding that makes areas uninhabitable.

4. Yes, dear. It will.
And it will be happening all over the world all at once.

I keep saying, now is the time to arrange marriages for your children to farmers and landholders in central Canada. But nobody heeds my words.

6. If you look at a map of the globe
Canada and Siberia will become the most desirable places for humans. So yes, you are correct.

7. You forgot acidification of the oceans by CO2
Sure, the oceans will eventually stop absorbing CO2, but by that time they will be so acidic that very little will be able to live in them. That is if they could survive all the trash, chemicals and plastic bags.

Oh and slightly off topic - Did ya hear about the Texas-sized raft of trash in the middle of the Pacific?

Happy Weds everyone! :)
