Progressive talker Ed Schultz ties Bill O'Reilly in audience size
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 10:24 AM by RamboLiberal
And they said liberal talk radio would never survive.

According to Talker's Magazine, a trade industry publication, the nation's largest progressive talk show radio host Ed Schultz is now tied in the number of radio listeners to conservative radio personality Bill O'Reilly.

Last November, Schultz leapt from 3pm to 6pm ET to the choice noon to 3pm ET slot, the same time slot as conservative talker Rush Limbaugh and, at the time, Air America's Al Franken.

A new survey by Talkers Magazine listed Schultz's weekly audience at 3.25 million weekly listeners, the same number of listeners enjoyed by O'Reilly, host of the Fox News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor.

-----

Limbaugh, who had 14.5 million weekly listeners in 2005, has not recovered from his loss of audience reported in the 2006 survey. His audience has been holding steady at 13.5 million listeners since that report.

Whether you like or hate Schultz I think this is still good news. It proves progressive and liberal talk can find an audience and would thrive on radio (and TV). I think the way Schultz has marketed his show and his rising number of appearances on various talk cable shows is smart.

1. Good news indeed!
And I bet more people actually take Schultz seriously than take O'Reilly seriously. Schultz actually makes sense and checks facts. O'Reilly? Not so much. Now let's hope big Ed can overtake limbaugh.

2. No surprise here. Schultz does not try to alienate any listeners
O'liely does, by rudness and other avenues

I realize Schultz isn't to everyone's taste at DU, but that isn't his game. He allows all views on his program, and is respectful to all his listeners.

Whether people realize it or not, he is the best spokesperson for our cause because he is able to deliver our message to people who wouldn't hear it otherwise

3. And IMHO Schultz deserves a lot of credit
For giving Kucinich 3 hours and making same offer to any Dem Presidential candidate. Also for getting so many Dems on talk radio.

Limpballs gets his ratings cause there's so many stations he's on. Whenever I've driven in the hinterlands of Pennsylvania, West Virginia or Ohio I will find that idiot on almost a half-dozen stations within my car radio's range. And what he's not on I find Hannity or one of the other wingnuts. I think Schultz would have an appeal to many in those hinterlands once they deprogrammed from Limpball's and Shammity propaganda.

4. I've been saying for a while now
That Schultz is the best thing to happen to progressive talk radio. He knows the radio biz and what it takes to succeed. He is doing that and it sounds like he is doing it well. I wonder if O'Reilly's head will explode when he hears about this?

6. this is big because Schultz is on far fewer radio stations
and the quality of the signal on most of the stations is very poor too.

After the 2006 election progressive radio was put on the right wing's
hit list.

9. Right. I'd like to see a comparison of the number of stations Ed is on vs. Bill O.

Stephanie Miller tripled and then doubled the ratings on the station
she was on. Ed, Al, & Randy pulled big #s too.

It got flipped to right wing shit and its #s are so small they don't even have
any ratings.

bottom line the majority of America is not right wing born again idiots.
