FRONTLINE presents CHENEY'S LAW on Tuesday, October 16, 2007,
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 11:51 AM by raccoon
on air and online.

"For three decades Vice President Dick Cheney conducted a secretive, behind-closed-doors campaign to give the president virtually unlimited wartime power. Finally, in the aftermath of 9/11, the Justice Department and the White House made a number of controversial legal decisions. Orchestrated by Cheney and his lawyer David Addington, the department interpreted executive power in an expansive and extraordinary way, granting President George W. Bush the power to detain, interrogate, torture, wiretap and spy -- without congressional approval or judicial review."

"The vice president believes that Congress has very few powers to actually constrain the president and the executive branch," former Justice Department attorney Marty Lederman tells FRONTLINE. "He believes the president should have the final word, indeed the only word on all matters within the executive branch."

2. Nixon's poison, Cheney's "law"
Don't forget the imperial presidency got its start with Richard Nixon and Cheney was on his staff.

The only way to repudiate it and get back to the constitutional checks and balances is for Congress to get off its overpaid, fat, cowardly collective ass and impeach these bastards.

3. I agree with him.
Let the next Democratic President wield those autocratic powers fully to crush the opposition into dust. The Supreme Court has been backing the idea of 'Unitary Executive'; now let's see who howls when a Democrat reads their mail, evesdrops on their conversations, and hides behind 'National Security' when the Executive Branch is called to testify before an investigative committee.

I guess the Republics never thought of that eventuality. Bunch of dopes.
