Why is DU in a frenzy over Al? Video : 2006 MLK-day speech
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 07:04 AM by BelgianMadCow
I know I was totally smitten by this speech. It covers amongst others illegal wiretapping and torture.

http://www.acslaw.org/node/2096

It has a working link to the video - am viewing it now.
Audio also available.

Took me a while to find it back, enjoy!

on edit : Gore starts about 10 minutes in after intros. That's about 1/5th of the media player bar :-)
Video is pretty heavy so only for broadbanders I guess.

3. I remember watching when he gave this speech
I think it is one of the actual great speeches of all time.

I cried when I heard it. The passion and the power were so overwhelming as well as my sense of utter relief that there was at least one sane person in the world who was willing to give a no holds barred assessment of the perfidy of the Bush Administration.

He could give it again ver batim today and it would be no less powerful, probably more so, because more people are currently in a heightened state of awareness about the very real threats posed to our civil rights and liberties as well as the general ethos of the entire country.

4. It gave me (a foreigner) goosebumps
His passion was SO real, so tangible... and still he was exquisitely eloquent.

I agree he could give it again to even greater effect, at this time of FISA-horrors (again).

5. I heard that speech on the radio while driving for work,
I recognized the voice instantly, and the words put a fire in my belly. I had to pull over to listen to the entire speech.

7. It's frustrating to revisit it because he gets it, understands it,
can articulate it, but he isn't one of our candidates for president and we need more who will articulate it forcefully and without a hint of triangulation.

8. "without a hint of triangulation"
such passion as he displays is VERY convincing isn't it. I am sure the average voter feels this just as well. This speech was so refreshing in comparison to all the polished appearences...

To be honest, I don't feel "it" with any of the frontrunners, not to detract of their qualities compared to the Twirly Eyed Whackos on the other side.

Dennis gets it, understands it, but his articulation lacks projecting power for me.

Feingold strikes me as having the same honest fire in his belly. Is he too young to run?

13. Can't say as to why Feingold won't run.

16. Feingold declined partially because of the South
He's afraid the fact that he's Jewish and twice-divorced won't play well with many Southern voters despite his pro-Second Amendment leanings. For 2008, at least, he's sitting the race for the White House out.

10. This speech sealed it for me. I watched it and was just blown
away by it. The most inspiring speech I have seen in my lifetime.

15. Thanks for the link, BMC
I decided to treat myself and just finished listening to Big Al again, and this time I bookmarked the link. First time I heard this on the day he gave it, I stood up crying and clapping at the end -- all by myself in the house. Since I'm normally a pretty phlegmatic type, I shocked even myself. Been in a "frenzy" for Gore to be our president ever since. :D
