Does DU still allow third party discussion as it used to?
For me that isn't the case...

I do understand it - a presidential election gives the winner all, so a third party on the left would probably be dividing left powers, thereby giving the presidency to republicans.

One has to consider that a BIG independent party however, consisting of those who are really left today (e.g. 30%)plus a certain percentage of the 30% center voters (e.g. 5%), could also garner enough votes namely 36 % versus 35 % for the republicans. (or less close :-))

I do not know anymore whether it was exactly the same in the 04 primaries.

quien pensas?

6. Good.
Why are people complaining that the rules that they agreed to are being enforced?

 sorry but you need to meditate on why any association with Marxist/Leninistism after the cold war is the kiss of death in a Democracy.. i think it is stretching it t believe the 2 are at all compatible.

why do people think ron paul is the best Republican, cause his party can do exponentially more damage to modern civilization/ or destroy it totally.. than the repubs

3. There's already a party
that captures most of the left and much of the Center: The Democratic Party.

5. True - question is who's got what percentage though
I know democrats often do well with a run to the center. But the other way around is also possible.

9. We are stuck with a 2 party system, like it or not
and its going to take a long time to change that. Its going to have to change from within the two party system. The influence of 3rd parties is as spoiler. Around here the influence is as flamebait or argument. I love the ideals of the Green Party but in actual practice they spend a lot of time bashing Democrats, when they could do so much more good running as Democrats.

Thats my rant on third parties.

13. It is also possible to influence the Dems from within, yes
and that may be equally good.

But if you want to get to a three-party system with a coalition left-center, then you've got to elect the most progressive ones now.

29. thats what I'm trying to do, working with PDA
and since my state party won't allow a "progressive" caucus... they force us outside. In a way that makes it easier, they can't control us. And I hope that means Greens will hook up with us because they have some very good people.

17. Only on the regularly scheduled Hate Nader/Greens threads.
Where people calling themselves "liberals" do their best to quash anything that questions the right of the Democratic Party to own the votes of everyone.

“Freedom for supporters of the government only, for members of one party only, no matter how big its membership may be is, no freedom at all. Freedom is always freedom for the man who thinks differently."

25. The rules are pretty straightforward...
"You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website."
