60 grams of fat for breakfast! (AP/CNN)
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP) -- The people who brought you the Monster Thickburger and the 1,100-calorie salad are at it again -- this time for breakfast.

Hardee's on Monday rolled out its new Country Breakfast Burrito -- two egg omelets filled with bacon, sausage, diced ham, cheddar cheese, hash browns and sausage gravy, all wrapped inside a flour tortilla. The burrito contains 920 calories and 60 grams of fat.

Brad Haley, marketing chief for the St. Louis-based fast-food chain, said the burrito offers the sort of big breakfast item normally found in sit-down restaurants with an added advantage.
***
In 2003 the chain introduced a line of big sandwiches, including the Monster Thickburger. The 1,420-calorie sandwich is made up of two 1/3-pound slabs of beef, four strips of bacon, three slices of cheese and mayonnaise on a buttered bun.

Even Hardees' chicken salad -- topped with onion rings and crispy chicken -- has 1,100 calories and 83 grams of fat.

1. That should be illegal
Ok, not really, but morally that is just wrong. That is 3 days worth of fat and a whole days worth of calories. I can just imagine the sodium count on that baby.

It is most certainly not 3 days worth of fat. Thanks for pointing this out.

That is obscene.

On a 2,000 calorie diet, the average person should eat between 45-78 grams of fat. It varies somewhat according to age, gender and lifestyle. So, this breakfast is an entire day's serving of fat and then some, even for people who're healthy enough that they can consume up to 78g!

That works too. I like the smoky flavor of meat. :)

I have just begun adding more avocado to my foods because it's so much healthier and adds an extra layer of flavor. It's a good flavor substitute for meat and/or cheese.

No, any way you slice that up - pure poison. Without significant increases in fiber, you may as well just shoot fat and glucose straight into your veins. I'm not a food nazi, I just never realized how slight the changes would have to be to have a reasonably healthy diet. You like mushrooms and avocados and bell peppers, yes??

22. Ugh. Not me.
I used to eat breakfast now and then at Denny's, and it often gave me stomach attacks. I could never figure out why until I had a glimpse in the kitchen. I don't know if it was just the guy cooking that day, but I saw him ladle cooking grease over the top of a pile of hash browns just before serving it. That ruined my appetite. :(

They always made us kids sit at the back near the kitchen, and one night Denny decided to drink all the little cream pitchers they had filled (waiting to put them in the fridge).. They did not mix well with all the beer, and he tossed his cookies right there at the table..

They threw us out and banned us forever.. then we walked to the car wash and hosed him down..

14. I'm so disgusted!
Because that sounds fantastic and I can never eat it due to Diabetes.

The problem isn't that these things are available, but that people try to eat them every day. If a healthy person ate this once every month or so, there's not too much of a problem, provided the rest of their diet IS healthy.

That's just like my Saturday breakfasts used to be as a kid. Eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, and either pancakes or French toast, depending on what my parents felt like making. Top that off with whole milk AND orange juice and THAT was brunch after cleaning from 5 AM.

66. There is only one thing I don't like
about quaker oats, and that is the picture of Barbara Bush on the carton.

61. Yikes. My breakfast is usually a tub of non-fat yogurt...
...with a couple of spoonfuls of Grape Nuts on top. When I'm feeling extra hungry I'll slice a banana or a couple of strawberries into the mix.

About once or twice a month I'll do a sit-down "diner" breakfast of two fried eggs (with plenty of tabasco) and home fries. That Hardees thing was something I'd have eaten back when I was drunk and weighed 230 lbs. It sounds horrid.

.

63. i was surprised at how many calories a lot of fast food items have
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 10:49 PM by JI7
someone above mentioned the carl's jr milk shakes. it's similar of many other restaurants.

i use to think if i just got a shake and something like a grilled chicken sandwich it wasn't too much. but the shake has more than you would eat in total at any meal.

the bbq grilled chicken sandwich at Carl's Jr IS very good though and not too many cals.

these days i try to check out the calorie content online before going to fast food or other places.

67. I check online a lot, too.
My mother's heart attack last year kind of scared me into researching what I eat.

It can be frustrating sometimes, because I've begun to realize how many of my favorite foods/meals are atrociously bad for me. I can't bring myself to have them again after that. It's okay to eat the occasional unhealthy meal, of course, but a lot of this stuff is worth a day's total fat plus change!

76. I live in ignorance
it works well so far. I like the Baconator from Wendy's far to much to actually find out what the numbers on it are.

When I got my physical last year, I remember my cholestoral was like 157. When I told my fit-and-trim, 35-year-Army-career, yogurt-eating, health-concious boss what it was, he looked at me with his jaw on the floor and said "They way YOU eat?!?!?"

And my BP is fine, to! :-)

84. A biscuit at Popeye's Chicken has more calories than a piece of fried chicken.
So delicious, though.

75. That burrito is essentially almost 59% fat
If the burrito contains 920 calories and 60 grams fat:

60 grams of fat = 540 calories

920 (total cal) - 540 (fat cal) = 380 (ca's from everything else)

Total % of calories from fat: 58.69%

I for one ain't eating that shit.

Mmm. Great tasting food.

They should change their slogan, "Breakfast! Less healthy than a pack of cigarettes!"

Just kidding! I don't care about the 2 week long cigarette discussion!

But I still do love how their food tastes. Don't eat there often, though. Down to 175 after ballooning up to 230 a few years back.
