Sometimes I do believe in the death penalty
Man to die for leaving girl to be eaten by gators

MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21313715/

MIAMI - A man convicted of murder for leaving a 5-year-old girl to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades was sentenced to death Monday....

But will his sentence fit the crime. I'd throw him in the same spot.

5. Eye for an eye?
Don't know if I can go there, but in the case of a child -- it is difficult at times.

13. In doing that, we'd be no better than them.
Most murders are committed for the same "reasons" people give for the Death Penalty. To keep "them" from doing something "bad" (like squeal); because they did something terrible; because they're "bad" people. You name it.

Death penalty proponents often give examples of heinous crimes - crimes that most offend our sensibilities - to argue that death is the only 'just' punishment. What's ignored is that the more heionous the crime, the more likely that emotion overwhelms reason and innocent people are convicted - or lynched. I don't believe there is any 'just' punishment that doesn't dehumanize the punishers.

http://www.innocenceproject.org/

As of today, there have been 208 post-conviction DNA exonerations in United States. That's 208 PROVEN INNOCENT individuals freed from death row - after a 'fair trial' found them "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt" ... trials presumably far more assiduous and carefult, due to the serious nature of the offense, than others for lesser offenses. How many innocent people have been put to death? How many innocent people are among the 2.2 million in our prisons today?

15. Yeah, I know.
You see, TN, I have done hard time (and I was guilty as hell).

And I spent a lot of time around people of whom I was convinced of their innocence (Man, my syntax can suck sometimes).

But this dude is locked in.

There are some people who deserve to die, to leave the coil that the rest of us inhabit.

3. I think the whole damn world has gone mad actually... Seems like...
every day produces some sort of shock and awe like this that you just can't get your head around. And why do these horrible things seem to be happening more to children than not?

6. Nah, I just want him locked up so he can't do it again
although I won't be making any bets regarding his longevity in prison. Other inmates tend to take a very dim view of hate crimes involving children, especially cute little ones of five.

The only case I've ever seen that might have been a death penalty case was Ted Bundy, who escaped from custody twice to continue killing. Even then, a lobotomy would've fixed him up just fine and prison would've worked.

I say this as a survivor of a murder of a family member. I am against the death penalty because of who I am, not because of who they are.

18. Most inmates don't give a damn.

If a killer has money to buy the other inmates cigarettes, he will make friends with them all. People who think criminals are concerned with "poor little children" have a misconception of what it takes to end up on death row. Offered sufficient reward, they'd all kill a child.

23. I would hope so. But to think baby f*ckers and child killers
will be punished by their prison peers is a stupid misconception of what inhabits prisons. That kind of activity would pass as entertainment to most of the men behind bars.

25. Oh, one more thing - we ALL have killed children
http://www.amnestyusa.org/abolish/juveniles.html

Our country has executed minors. It's not so much as sufficient reward as it is sufficient blood thirst.

9. Mine too.
In my opinion, there are some crimes that are so heartless, so awful, that they clearly deserve the death penalty.

10. This is exactly why we have to make laws that equally apply to everyone.
We can't let our emotions lead us to bad decisions.

Wanting to kill this guy : totally natural.
Deciding not to : extra-humanly moral.

17. I could live with that idea
Build him a shack on poles above a gator pit. Put him in and say, see we spared your life.

Pass him some food once a month and maybe let him go below for water.
