Biggest Mystery of the 2008 Presidential Primaries...
If "Get Out of Iraq" is polling at 70% or more...

And Bush is polling at 25% or less, largely due to the Iraq War...

Why is Hillary Clinton, the most Hawkish Democrat, leading the polls 3 to 1 over her nearest rival???

--- AND ---

Why is Super Hawk Rudy Giuliani leading the Republican Polls???

Are the voters just stupid, or is there something I'm missing here?

BTW: If you haven't seen Josh Marshall's latest report, you need to:

1. My guess is that ...
a fair percentage of Hillary's poll numbers are coming from Republicans.
They need her to be the nominee, since the only platform that they can run on is "Not being Hillary".

2. Is her view more "hawkish" than Biden, Dodd or Obama?
Just asking because I don't know. I know Richardson and Kucinich want out right now.

6. I think to get the real picture, you have to consider a body of statements
by each candidate and not cherry pick a sound bite here or there. My impression is that Edwards and Obama don't want to be caught in a "read my lips, no new taxes" situation, so they are careful to leave room should the situation change in an unpredictable fashion. Otherwise, they want us out.

9. Biden and Dodd both voted 'no' on Kyl/Lieberman; Obama didn't vote.
I'd say that speaks volumes about the comparisons...

3. Could it be because journalists are covering the elections as a horse race
instead of examining the candidates? So much easier to parrot polling results than to examine Ms. Clinton's assorted statements on torture, Iran and Iraq!

Vanity Fair had an article last month pointing out that one of the journalists responsible for trashing Gore is now a restaurant critic. If these journalists don't find politics interesting, they should get another job!

10. The "horse race" strategy lets an early "name recognition" candidate...
like Bush in '98, go on to victory with a 'winners bandwagon' effect.

Now, who else has a recognizable name in 2008...

4. It's an indication the Ricarson's anti war status makes him the biggest threat...
to the Corporate media that is trying to hedge their bet.

5. Because her vote to support Lieberman / Kyle wasn't what it was.
You see because we are in a "war on terror" and if you vote to call
another country's military "terrorists" she does not mean that in a
negative way.

BTW and just because she has on staff a person who works for Blackwater
& supports "union busting" that means Hillary cares about America.

up is down and the polls mean shut and say President Clinton.

7. Name recognition, not policy recognition drives the polls
at this stage in the game.

If you want a mule to do something, you need to get his attention, first.

Nobody has really gotten the public's attention. The major media are too full of drunk blondes, dead blondes, and missing blondes to tell them what's going on.

8. That...and the "Little Old Lady from Peoria" effect....
You see, polls filter for "likely voters" and those who will take the time to answer a phone poll....

14. Repubs want Clinton, the MSM wants Clinton, Corporate/Business wants Clinton....
... so put all those resources together and consider what can be accomplished when they all work together.

In Dems v. Repubs head to head Edwards has been winning by the biggest margins, has the lowest unfavorable numbers, and appeals to the independents/undecideds and unaffiliated voters. He would be the killer Dem Candidate in the General Election.

And yet Edwards is 'reported' to be in 3rd place.

The evidence is there to explain why Clinton is the 'anointed one' by the MSM.

15. Because most Americans
don't agree with your facile view of things. They don't perceive Clinton as hawkish, and they absolutely do NOT support a Kucinich-like immediate cut-off of funding.

There's very little difference between Clinton, Obama and Biden on Iraq. So people look at other facets.
