Pelosi should make overriding Bush on Schip a test of party loyalty and her leadership
She needs to go all out to win this vote. This is the kind of program Democrats--all Democrats--should stand for. Pelosi must put her personal prestige on the line and say tell wavering democrats that her leadership is on the line and if we can't override Bush on this bill in the Democratically controlled House (The Senate is poised to override, and our margins are much closer there) then her leadership will be seriously damaged. She must make this a priority vote for the Democratic party and tell the caucus that if democrats fail to defeat Bush on Schip the parties control of the House will be seriously damaged going into 2008--especially with polls giving the Congress a 12% approval rating.

damaged". It is already seriously damaged. Other than that, yes, it should be a priority vote & they should work their asses off to get every dem vote & add whatever republican votes they can to win this thing. Regardless, they should not cave in to Bush at all costs.

I did hear Senator Fienstein say of which I agree that if they cannot get the votes, they will not stop and if it comes to that, they will put the legislation back up for a vote just prior to the election. I think that sounds like a plan anyway.

3. What Pelosi needs to tell the Republicans is that NOT ONE OF THEIR BILLS
NOT A SINGLE ONE will see the light of day if they don't vote to override Bush's veto of SCHIP.

NOT A SINGLE ONE. NOTHING. ZIP. NADA.

And she needs to mean it.

Nancy controls the agenda, and she can do this if she wants to. She just needs to stand firm and quit being pushed around by the minority party.

7. There you go Andy. Yeah after all it is Bush that is going to have
his so called legacy in the toilet. He talks about leading, then he should find a way to work with the congress to get some of this legislation for the people passed. It takes him, the congress and senate to get it all passed. The Repukes need to stop the obstruction of the peoples' work.

5. Even if she gets the 8 Dems to flip, it's not enough to override.
Three of them have vowed to flip so far, but it's the Repubs who hold the cards on this one.
