2 Bems who voted against SCHIP over-ride...
MARSHALL, Jim, a Representative from Georgia

TAYLOR, Gary Eugene (Gene), a Representative from Mississippi
-----------------------------------------------------

If Pelosi had the brains and skills necessary to be Speaker she would strip both of these jackasses of any important committee seats, and further would block all earmarks to their districts until such time as they 'saw the light'. This is how it is done folks. You do not sit imperiously in your big Speaker office and dictate, you get in the back room and you close the door and start twisting arms...right out of their sockets.

As further proof Pelosi is unqualified to be Speaker, it is absolutely essential that you understand and know how to 'use' parliamentary procedures...Pelosi has shown a distinct lack of ability in that area.

She needs to be replaced next session. And she needs to know that that will happen with certainty if in the nxt 90 days she does not make a radical improvement on her performance.

1. Nothing new in not punishing these guys.
No speaker in the '60's or '70s ever followed the party rule that Democratic committee chairs that don't support the presidential ticket must be stripped of their chairmanships. Almost ALL Southern Dem chairs in '64, '68 and '72(to say nothing of '80, '84 and '88)refused to endorse or campaign for the ticket, backing Wallace, Nixon or Reagan instead. By contrast, no progressive committee chair was ever disloyal to the presidential ticket.

2. I don't blame Pelosi, I blame the Majority Leader and the Whip
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 02:54 PM by FLDem5
it is THEIR job to get the votes needed.

I personally believe those two Dems caved to tobacco interests.

What could Hoyer have done so they weren't so influenced by big tobacco?

5. you do what they used to do.....
......you make em offer they can't refuse. Big corps are just as susceptible to 'handling', go back and read wjat the Sam Rayburns and Everett Dirksens did to get around exactly the same things. There are others, but they were masters of the black arts.

29. By chance are you referring to John Boehner?
One day last summer Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, chairman of the House Republican Conference, decided to play Santa Claus. … In any event, Mr. Boehner took it upon himself to begin handing out money from tobacco lobbyists to certain of his colleagues on the House floor.

Boehner stopped handing out the checks only “after being questioned about the practice by two freshmen who’d heard about the handoff on the House floor”

Think Progress

Maybe DeLay did it too, but if ever there was evidence that this congress is a pack of paid-off whores, this is it!

33. You are absolutely correct.

I'm sure Pelosi was working on the R's to see the light. It is the Majority Leader and Whip who need to be spending every minute twisting arms.

But where was Hoyer this morning? Doing rounds on talk radio. I heard him on Stephanie Miller. Even tho is was for just a short time, he should have been working his ass off working on those two traitors from the south who voted with the pukes.

Bravo to you for getting this right.

3. They laugh at you
Their votes made absolutely no difference. They knew it was going to fail and they took a safer vote for next years campaign in Georgia. If the vote was on the line you might have a gripe.

Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 03:03 PM by rateyes
and he just lost my vote. (And, I wouldn't vote for him again for all the tea in China.) This will NOT help him in this district. He's going down next term, and no one will be able to stop it. He's a damned Republican posing as a Democrat.

I'm one of the Democrats whose support he is losing mentioned in this article:

17. As has been pointed out here recently, Pelosi is complicite in "this mess."
It's why she can't push impeachment; she was in on the decision-making for the illegal wiretapping and her name will be all over the transcripts should Bush or Cheney be brought up on charges. Which they won't. She's working hard to make sure of it.

Pelosi is a disgrace.

32. I didn't bookmark it.
I'm not sure how to do an efficient search, since her name appears in every other thread.

It was yesterday or the day before. Maybe another alert DUer can help out. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it, but it's true. She was on the committee(s) which reviewed Bush's requests, and she OK'd them. Now it's come back to bite her -- and America -- on the ass.
