4. thank you. this is what i sent to her:
"THOSE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION GOTTA BE SOMEWHERE...(audience laughs) NOPE, NO WEAPONS OVER THERE...(audience laughs) MAYBE UNDER HERE...(audience laughs)

why should pete stark apologize? maybe bush needs to apologize first--to the troops, to the families of the dead, to the rest of this country for LYING us into this war!

bush has a 24 percent approval rating! and you can't stand by stark for pointing out the OBVIOUS? for saying something that EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS

what are you and steny and rahm so pissed off at pete stark for? for SPEAKING THE TRUTH???

these people have talked about the "phony soldiers", they trashed a 12 year old boy, they trashed a 2 year old little girl, they veto children's health care, they have been spying on us at least SEVEN months before 9/11. and you're siding with THEM?

who's side are you on nancy? it's getting more obvious all the time.

This is my message

After watching you in action over the past year since the Democrats won back control of Congress, I have to say you are too weak for the job of Speaker of the House. The other day you said you 'respected the President' over one of his usual wrong-headed decisions, but you disagreed with his decision. Maybe you should have said you respected the OFFICE of the President, but the President was wrong (yet again) in his decision-making. Now you've decided to rebuke Representative Stark on his comments re Bush and Iraq. Perhaps you haven't been reading all the polls which state that the great majority of the American people strongly disagree with Bush and his Iraq policy. The person you should be attacking is Bush and not your own people.

12. I sent my blurb off and here it is....
I agree with Representative Pete Stark. He shouldn't have been chastised by the Speaker of the House for exercising his tight to speak out for his constituents. That he speaks for many more than those in his district, should also be instructive. Disagree with him, fine. But let it be known you stand with the members of your party like the Republicans do. Defending his right to speak his mind. Distancing yourself from him hurts you more than it helps.

Can this Congress, whose polls are worse than George W. Bush as far as the broad spectrum of the American people are concerned, go any lower? It would appear that you making the effort to find out. At this rate, 2008 may surprise incumbent Democrats more than the Republicans.

I've been a Democrat since 1970 and I am thinking for the first time of withholding my vote out of protest. I’m coming to the conclusion that maybe it must get worse for my party, before some who are in office now will finally understand that sometimes you have to do things -- just because they're right. Not because you haven't got the votes. If there are known to be Constitutional violations by the President, its not the Speaker’s "choice" to decide what’s on or off the table.

If impeachment proceedings show clear violations of the law, then let those who vote in support of Bush explain that to their constituents. By not forcing the issue, you are giving them a pass. And if Bush is tied up defending himself against impeachment, then maybe he won't get as many people killed before his term is up. I am male, but I am also an avowed feminist. And I rejoiced upon your elevation to Speaker. But so far I’m sorry to say, I haven't seen much to cheer about.....

For non-constituents, the posted email link in the OP will not result in an email being sent to Pelosi's office. That link is for those who reside in her district.

Non-constituent emails must be sent via this email address:

She didn't ask for an apology. Hell, she didn't even disagree with Stark.

I have no problem with her and the way this was handled.

It seems like some people are out to crucify her.

There is a political reality. She doesn't have a magic wand and she has a frutsratingly slim majority.

screw the repukes and their feigned outrage (God, they are drama queens, aren't they?), but this short response from Nancy, which only criticizes Stark's remarks as "inappropriate" doesn't bother me in the least.

18. apparently you're right. she didn't ask for him to apologize
she just said his remark was inappropriate

"Pelosi issued a statement late Friday rapping Stark, who is in his 18th term representing the liberal East Bay. He's California's longest-serving House member.

""While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what U.S. Rep. Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand—providing health care for America's children," Pelosi said.

20. I'm not certain why it is that she HAD to do anything....
...it might have been better if she'd said nothing at all. A Member has a right to voice their opinion whether the Speaker or anyone else likes it or not. If she wasn't going to ask for an apology, and she didn't disagree with him, then what's the point of her saying anything? Pete Stark's comments reflect the beliefs of many and that reality won't go away, with or without a majority. And yes, the Repukes are Drama Queens and no one gives a shit what they scream about. That's all they know how to do anyway. Nothings changed.

There are many "political realities." One of them is that she and many others who supposedly represent the Democratic party, are pissing-off their constituents with obfuscations, delays, excuses and BS. We see our civil rights trashed and subverted, our privacy invaded and our treasury being plundered and we want them to stop it, or at least appear to be trying. So far the response from them has been to give these traitors and perpetrators of malfeasance in office, more power and more money to continue business as usual. They're voting this way because they're afraid of appearing "weak on defense." But in the end all they have accomplished is to appear to be "just weak." And weak as compared to Dubya. Now how much does that suck?

I could care less if we don't have the votes, they need to be on the right side of these issues and at least make the effort. So far we've seen squat. Keep sending bill after bill, and make the Chimp wear out his veto pen. Scrap those Repuke earmarks and throw them in the trash. And tell them no personal pork projects are making it back home until we get some action on Democratic initiatives. She's got the office and the power and she needs to use for us for a change.

Now that's my opinion. Not a crucification. Just an opinion. After supporting and voting for Dems for over 27 years, I think I'm entitled....

Here is my note to the speaker and Pete Stark:

==============
Please do not rebuke Congressman Stark. Just because the wing nuts are up in arms does not mean you have to bow down. What Congressman Stark said is literally true: witness Bush's "bring 'em on" comment. Which adult in his sane mind says such things as Bush when the consequences could be so deadly?

Pete Stark is a courageous man who spoke the truth. Leave him alone, or join him.

Greetings --

I am writing to voice my dismay that you saw fit to rebuke Representative Stark for his comments regarding the war in Iraq and President Bush's "amusement".

Surely you must realize that many if not most Americans have come to the same conclusion that Rep. Stark has about the reasons for this illegal and immoral military action. In fact, Bush has expressed his amusement quite clearly -- memorably, by looking under his desk for those pesky "missing WMDs".

I understand that the House wants to retain rules of propriety. However, given the track record of the Republicans over the last 7 years, it is simply beyond belief that anyone would take Rep. Stark to task for what he said. Every time a Republican representative makes an outrageous statement, the rest of his team lines up behind him. When was the last time you heard one of them make an apology? Seems to me, their apologies are few and far between, while our side keeps acting like abused spouses and saying "Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to make you made again dear".

The HECK with whether they are mad or not. We need some truth-telling, and you and others are trying to force everything back into the corporate-mealy-mouth mode.

Stop it, Enough already, Please, encourage your people to be MORE plainspoken, not LESS so. Especially in regards to a President and a party who have taken us down such a calamitous path as we have today, with an illegal military adventure, enriching the already-super-wealthy, creating companies like Blackwater out of thin air, outing CIA agents and their cover companies, spying on Americans, etc. etc.

Oh and one other thing. A lot of this cowering by our side is done because of political calculations. So here's a clue: You will get a lot more political traction by being blunt and standing up to the thugs on the other side of the aisle, than you will by cowering in the corner EVEN WHEN WE HAVE THE MAJORITY. This does not mean stooping to their level when they were in the majority -- you'd have to work at that! But it is never wrong to fight when defending yourself. Our side needs defending, and the best defense is a good offense.

I suggest that the next time something like this comes up, you do one of two things: (1) "No comment"; or (2) "I will hold my team to the same high standards as the team on the other side of the aisle has displayed for the last 7 years; and by that standard, Pete Stark is not even close to over the line." Something like that.

Gee, is it really so hard to see this?

29. I am so pissed
Here's my letter to her:

I am one of many Americans who agrees wholeheartedly with Pete Stark’s comments about the president. His comments were accurate and reflect the growing need for our elected representatives to start saying what their constituents are actually thinking. We all think Bush is a nightmare and frankly, a criminal. It’s unfortunate that you are siding with the republicans and acting like a republican. If you can’t join the real democrats and start trying to end the war and begin fixing our country, then you are part of the problem. Pete Stark did not need your admonishment. He needs you to back him up! I was very excited when the Democrats took the House and Senate, but you have made a mockery of your win. The people of this country want this war ended yesterday and our citizens cared for rather than supporting this illegal war. If you can’t help then you need to get out of the way. You are a hindrance to the American people achieving what they want: to end this war. How many more soldiers and innocent Iraqis will die while you spend your time ‘praying’ for the president? Is praying the new way to legislate? Again, Nancy, if you can’t help the people attain what they want, you need to get out of the way. We are all beyond frustrated and your capitulation isn’t helping anyone but Bush and his never-ending war agenda.

31. My letter......
Ms. Pelosi:
Why did you not support Rep. Stark? He said what many, MANY of us are thinking. Was his crime telling the truth too bluntly? Your job is to support him and other Democrats, not to bow to the Republicans every time they whip out their "moral outrage" dog and pony show.

We're scared out here. We see the President running roughshod over the Constitution and committing what sure look like criminal acts almost daily. Yet you choose to criticize Stark when he dares to speak the truth. Ms Pelosi, there are more important things than decorum when people are dying daily, as they are in Iraq and right here in the United States because of Bush Administration policies.

Madam Speaker, we need you to fight, and fight hard. If you can't do that, please step aside and let other Democrats do it.

33. My email to Ms. Pelosi:
Dear Ms. Pelosi,

Pete Stark is right.

I totally agree with what he said about George Bush, SCHIP and wasting money in Iraq. And according to polls so do 90% of the public, Bush may be at 24% of popularity, but Congress is at 11% because they won't stand up to Bush/Cheney and the rest of their criminal/corporate friends.

Pete Stark also defended MoveOn. I agree with him.

You should not be publicly rebuking other Democrats for stating the truth--it gives the Repugs ammunition to use against us. You should defend Mr. Stark's very true statement.

George Bush is the awol warmonger who blew up frogs for fun as a child, publicly laughed when he talked about sentencing Carla Faye Tucker to death and chuckles every time he talks about death. He is now responsible for 1 million or more deaths and counting. And his economic policies, financial stripping of the middle class and poor and environmental policies will kill millions more before his foul legacy is complete.

I'm utterly sick of the Democrats yielding control of public discourse and congressional legislation to these criminal scum and their corporate accomplices.
