Which countries have publicly financed campaigns?
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 10:02 AM by midlife_mo_Jo
(My first subject line didn't reflect what I was attempting to ask, so I've changed it.)

Which countries have publicly funded campaigns? Or does anyone know of a source that would have that information handy? I'm not really coming up with anything on google.

In my opinion, most other battles are just a waste of time, so this is how I intend to spend my time talking to people.

There's just not a damn thing we can do until we get rid of the moneyed lobbyists who buy votes. Without campaign finance reform, we're just spinning our wheels.

6. Ah - OK, Germany has some public financing, but also allows private financing
http://germany.info/relaunch/info/archives/background/partyfinance.html

About a third of the parties' funding is public, typically.

In France, public funding in the main source. Businesses cannot donate - individual donations are capped: http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/Politics-Political-party-funding.html

Until we get campaign finance reform, I feel NO hope for this country. None.

If I had the power and money (haha) to effect one change, I know that would be it. However, even with campaign finance reform, as long as corporate media conglomerates have a stronghold on the American public, it won't be as effective as it can be.
