Sympathy circle for Louisiana DUers
"Congratulations" to Gov.-elect Bobby Jindal (R). We'll take Kentucky from them come next month when Steve Beshear beats Gov. Ernie Fletcher.

So let the Republicans say "America hates the Democrats!" (without mentioning that hundreds of thousands of Dem votes were lost in LA because of Katrina)

Jindal labeled Louisianans as "God-fearing" during his victory speech today.........

PUKE!!!!!!!!!!

1. This will probably be faux noise headline.
I can see insannity now "This goes to show that the people of Louisiana are fed up with Democrats and that showed in the votes."

This will be the talking point of reugnants all week long. (anything to keep Iraq and Blackwater out of the headlines)

13. In Louisiana one klanservative replaced another klanservative.

Kathleen Blanco signed the Louisiana abortion ban into law. Does anyone have a status for that abortion ban at present?

In terms of ideology nothing much has changed.

2. well, with SCHIP, the close call in MA-05, and now this
it's been a rather shitty week for us in the "Beat the Dems up" world with the right wing media spinning its circles.

At least it's all happening at the same time and very early...it'll blow over after Kentucky has their election.

Puke now, celebrate in 2008!@

4. ok . It's not that he's an "Asian Indian'
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 11:49 PM by drthais
it's that he is a....
oh where do I begin?

a pandering, self-serving, right-wing zealot

not a religious freakazoid, but if you wanted to think he was one
it would be very easy

not an intellectual, exactly
but here in Louisiana
it doesn't take much to appear that you have more than two brain cells

the poor republicans in this state
just SO wanted someone 'of their kind' who had not yet embarrassed them
and he was IT
they could hand his bumper sticker on their car
and not be ashamed
at least not yet
but that time will come

it is so hard to be from this state

6. My grandmother was born in your state
She died when I was very young, but I've been told that she liked to listen to Louisiana's political news on the radio. I think that was when Huey Long was governor.

I grew up in Alabama with Kissing Jim Folsom as governor (though he was a populist and not racist) and George Wallace. Now my native state is in the news because it seems the former Dem governor was convicted on trumped up charges because he was the victim of one of Rove's political prosecutions.

When I moved to CA, we had a Dem governor, but he was replaced in a recall by the Gropinator.

Life is hard.

7. Let's turn our attention to the special election for his House seat
I hear we have a good candidate.

And let's actually wish Jindal good luck in office. With all that Louisiana is going through right now, it's in no one's interest for him to fail.

8. How can this not be election fraud?
There's what, like 1 or 2 hundred Repigs in the whole state? Our country is so fucked, our votes don't count at all. These fascist cocksuckers stole Louisiana for fuck's sake!

Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 12:42 AM by ...of J.Temperance
Pretty Republican, and there's some heavy-leaning Republican Parishes further down state, such as Jefferson Parish, which is a BIG Parish.

Don't know what it says about those voters in Louisiana, that they LIKE a non-white just as long as he's got an (R) after his name....it's just the non-Republican non-whites they say FU to, like the black population of New Orleans for example.

The ONLY thing that had kept Louisiana Democratic for so long, was the HUGE black vote in Orleans Parish....now it's not there to the capacity that it used to be.

On Edit: Dammit spelling error

9. Jaysus
This is depressing news.

No doubt my Mother will be on the phone to me in a few hours....Jindal wouldn't have stood a snowballs chance if the Louisiana Democrats would have put up a heavy-duty candidate against him....or let's face it, Jindal wouldn't have stood a chance if a good portion of black voters in Orleans Parish hadn't of been....transported to a ton of other states.

12. This is true..for one their base of religious fundamentalist
christians meet once a week and receive marching orders via the pulpit.

Also, how many voters have been displaced courtesy of Hurricane Katrina and the ineptness of FEMA? Those folks should have been allowed to vote in the Louisiana election, even if they live in another state. They are after all displaced persons.

14. Those were factors, certainly, as well.
I do have to wonder how much/how overt the church effort was. I'm guessing it was pretty substantial. The turnout was pretty good for an "off" election. I wonder if the liberal field was shocked that there would be no runoff, that Jindal won outright. If only they'd settled on one person ahead of the contest, and maintained some discipline for the sake of retaining the office, this might not have been a cakewalk for Jindal.
