Blackwater begins pullout of Iraq
By Basil Adas, Correspondent
Published: October 21, 2007, 23:04

Baghdad: Iraqi Interior Ministry sources have said that American and British security firms have started to leave Iraq.

"We have information from Baghdad airport saying that 90 to 120 individuals working for the private security firm, Blackwater, are leaving Baghdad every day in an American military aircraft, this is in addition to more than 44 personnel from the UK-based Olive Group who left Iraq last week," Colonel Arkan Adnan, an Iraqi officer at the Interior Ministry told Gulf News.

Some Sunni and Shiite armed groups have declared that the forthcoming days will witness vindictive operations against all foreign private security convoys as revenge against the lives of innocent Iraqis who were killed by personnel working for these firms. Four Blackwater personnel were killed in the Sunni-dominated city of Fallujah, east of Baghdad, three years ago.

Cold-blooded murders

17. You're right. That's exactly what is happening.
How we'll ever get rid of these guys is a mystery to me. The work of the Church committee has pretty much been undone. Our Justice Department is in ruins. It doesn't look good for the rebel alliance.

7. I've never owned a gun
Never saw the point.

I'm beginning to think it might be a good idea.

Odds are I'd never get to use it, but when the "crapture" comes (my term for when bush declares a police state) maybe I'd want to at least make them have to work a little. Cause a couple to be "left behind" before they dig me out of my spider hole.

Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 08:55 PM by higher class
some will go to Dubai to protect Halliburton? some to Bolivia? some to Cuba? and some to Venezuela? OR ... will they be going to Africa for the takeover over of oil and nuclear sources and the 'control' of the people.

What was that we heard from Scahill on the Bill Moyer's show? Blackwater employees were sent to New Orleans on the instructions of Prince several days before Blackwater got a contract from Homeland Security to protect ??????? - who? Certain shop and business owners? Not Black Americans. One or two of them said that New Orleans didn't have the action (that Iraq had?). There is testesterrone running wild here. We don't need them anymore. Cancel that contract, Ms Rice. Take off your general's brass and ribbons. We don't want you to have your own private army anymore.

Goodnight, Prince. It's not been sweet.

23. Hey Swamp Rat, have a question for ya
Is Blackwater still in New Orleans and are you stunned to see them in your own backyard so to speak? I cannot believe I've witnessed a mercenary army providing "security" in an American city. An army that consists of the very same foreign killers we spawned for the Central American massacres. These truly are Oilwellian times.

15. There is something very wrong here.
Can anybody with enough money start their own army? Can anybody buy attack helicopters? Don't they have to have a license or something?

16. And we thought we already had a corporate coup
We may yet witness an *actual* corporate coup.

Why not? What's to stop them? They already outnumber our own forces, don't they (because much of their manpower is actually non-American -- low-wage foreign mercs).

This is exactly why such entitites should be VERY illegal here.

21. reposting Machiavelli's quotes on mercs
I can't think of a better source... a must-read for anyone who seriously studies governments and leadership...

From The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, ~1515

Mercenaries and auxiliaries are useless and dangerous. If a prince bases the defense of his state on mercenaries he will never achieve stability or security. For mercenaries are disunited, thirsty for power, undisciplined, and disloyal; they are brave among their friends and cowards before the enemy; they have no fear of God, they do not keep faith with their fellow men; they avoid defeat just so long as they avoid battle; in peacetime you are despoiled by them, and in wartime by the enemy. The reason for all this is that there is no loyalty or inducement to keep them on the field apart from the little they are paid; and this is not enough to make them want to die for you. They are only too ready to serve in your army when you are not at war; but when war comes they either desert or disperse.

---

Mercenary commanders are either skilled in warfare or they are not: if they are, you cannot trust them, because they are anxious to advance their own greatness, either by coercing you, their employer, or by coercing others against your own wishes. If, however the commender is lacking in prowess,in the normal way he brings about your ruin. If anyone argues that this is true of any other armed force, mercenary or not, I reply that armed forces must be under the control of either a prince or a republic: a prince should assume personal command and captain his troops himself; a republic must appoint its own citizens, and when a commander so appointed turns out incompetent, should change him, and if he is competent, it should limit his authority by statute. Experience has shown that only princes and armed republics achieve solid success, and that mercenaries bring nothing but loss; and a republic which has its own citizen army is far less likely to be subjugated by one of its own citizens than a republic whose forces are not its own.

---

Mercenary armies bring only slow, belated, and feeble conquests, but sudden, startling defeat.
