Landmark California Theater Lends Hand to Draft Gore
Landmark Theater in Oakland, California, to Run "An Inconvenient Truth" to Benefit Draft Gore

San Francisco Bay Area Film Event: October 25

Everyone in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond is invited to a very special showing of "An Inconvenient Truth" at the beautiful historic landmark Grand Lake Theater in Oakland on October 25.

The theater will run Al Gore's Oscar-winning film all day (12:00, 2:30, 5:00, 7:35, and 10:00), with all proceeds going to Draft Gore. The film will run in the main theater.

The theater is already advertising the event on its marquee, with letters large enough to be seen from I-580 nearby.

Be part of this very special fundraiser and meet other Gore supporters in the Bay Area.

Clear enough .... ENDLESS WAR OR DRAFT GORE

One more time, just to be sure ... ENDLESS WAR OR DRAFT GORE

Peace.

Exclusive Interview With DraftGore.com & More

Cross Posted @ Truth & Progress

Note: Though I've written about their efforts, I am not in any way affiliated with DraftGore.com - I have instead worked with Netroots for Gore and America for Gore for the past many months. That being said, Draft Gore's work and publicity has been incredible, especially of late, and that's why I'm glad I was able to take part in a short interview with one of their spokespeople and share with you what's on tap for the next week and a half. The spokesperson has asked to remain anonymous.

Me: First off, thank you for everything you've done over the past months and years. Let me jump right into things - after the impressive New York Times ad, the Draft Gore movement was the political story for a few days. Despite the terrific press, almost all of the pundits and talking heads don't think Gore is going to enter the race this late in the game. What are your thoughts on that?

Draft Gore: DraftGore.com feels it's done a good job getting their name out there. They've been interviewed by virtually every major newspaper in the nation and incredibly around the world while appearing on MSNBC's Hardball and ABC's Good Morning America. But DraftGore.com feels it needs to reframe the debate and do a better job convincing the political world and Al Gore himself that a 2008 Gore candidacy is a slamdunk.

Including:

And finally, in a poll that has implications in both a potential general and primary election, Survey USA polled a Gore v. Giuliani matchup in Iowa. Here, Al trounces Giuliani 51-42%, a huge improvement over both his 2000 performance, where Gore won by 1%, as well as Kerry's '04 showing where he lost by 1%. I also said this could have some important bearing on the primary because it also polls Hillary against Giuliani. Here, Hillary still wins, but it's by a less comfortable 48-43%. Without crosstabs available, it's impossible to judge where exactly their respective support differs, but this polls suggests that Gore has more overall strength in Iowa than Hillary - without organization, without spending a single dollar, etc etc.

With each passing day, the window to jump in closes ever so slightly. The window likely gets boarded up on November 2nd, the New Hampshire filing deadline, if he hasn't jumped in by then. With poll after poll showing that Gore would not only be competitive, but could very well win the primary election and almost certainly win the general election, now is the time Al. If you're reading this, please heed the call of the millions who so desperately want you to lead them over the next eight years.

Yes, Mr Gore, we're ready and so are you.

It is time for those of us who care, compassionately, to avert disaster - for humanity and for all life on our planet earth.

The alternative is obviously catastrophic and inexcusable because we have the knowledge and the ability to avert it.

Time to act, intelligently and compassionately, NOW. We need you as the Presidential candidate and we will elect you President.

Thank you,
Bob

5. I love the Grand Lake, but...
... this is a waste.

Read my lips: HE'S NOT GOING TO RUN!

Sorry to be a killjoy but folks who are hoping Gore will jump in the race remind me of people who are anxiously awaiting the return of the Messiah. I will be thrilled if I am wrong. But alas, I don't think I am.

17. Where is this theatre located, xchrom?
I used to live in SF, but moved away a few years ago. :(

I can't place this theatre in my memory banks. From the exterior, it looks like the Castro Theatre, but surely it's not that one...probably just built during the same era.

Wish I could be there.

19. The Grand Lake is in Oakland
Right off the 580 (Grand Ave Exit) in the grand lake district, above the lake and below Piedmont. I used to live a few blocks away. There were a lot of UC Berkeley student renters there back then. But I'm not told the housing prices have changed the demographic to more gentrified and more affluent homeowner controlled.

18. Did you get Mr. Gore's or the producer' s permission to do this?
To use his movie which he reiterated many times was not a campaign or a politically partisan movie to make money off of it for yourselves? Even his Climate Project trainees are not allowed to make any fees or income off of their presentations. If you didn't get their permission then you are clearly using his Nobel Prize win and movie just to get attention for yourselves. But then, I guess you don't care about that anyway.

She's best friends with the guy. You know she's met him, right?
Anything she says must be straight from, Al.

I guess we're just going to have to quit this whole 'Draft Gore' thing or she's going to tattle on us.

Please don't tell on us, RG. We promise we won't support Al anymore. Ok?

27. You people don't support Al Gore
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 07:33 PM by RestoreGore
Doesn't look like you respect him much either if you can't answer the question... but then I guess they didn't ask permission to use his movie for their own financial benefit because they know what the answer was going to be? And it's good you respond as you do which looks like how someone would be treated on Free Republic. Now all who read this will see where this is really coming from. And so will he.

29. The REST OF US here who support Gore want him to run. You don't.
Stop lecturing us -- the reactions above are what you get when you keep dragging out your same one-trick pony to each and every pro-Gore thread.

Enough already. What is it you want to restore Gore to? Retirement? Irrelevance? The rubber chicken lecture circuit?

As for me, I hope our collective efforts (yourself excepted) do succeed in getting Al to run and take his rightful place in our White House.

PowerPoint presentation?

PowerPoint presentation?

We don't need Al chained to no steenkin' PowerPoint presentation.

We need a President -- and the world needs us to have one that the American people actually elects, for a change.

Gore is that person. If you don't like hearing us keep saying that like we mean it, take up knitting, won't you?

PS: The Grand Theater is a magnificent venue and I hope it is packed all day. Brings back fond memories of my days as an overworked Cal grad student, back in the day.

34. And stop trying to BULLY ME. I asked a valid question as a supporter of the man
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 05:50 AM by RestoreGore
If no one can answer it then to me that speaks volumes. It would appear then from many of the comments here that he is being used as a pawn for Clinton haters as well. Simple as that. And I am not into that political crap nor do I feel about her or any others one way or the other, but Al Gore is a grown man doing great things now with a mind of his own and all you people can do is harass him. Again, if you respected the man and his work I would think you wouldn't be using it to gain financially for yourselves, you would be holding a benefit with the proceeds going to The Alliance for Climate Protection. Don't expect people to think this is above board then when simple questions cannot be answered. Where is the money they will get from using his movie going? A steak dinner after the show?
