I think it should be legal to buy/sell/grow weed. I think most DU'ers would probably agree with me, because then it could be regulated to make sure it wasn't contaminated. How funny would it be if you could buy weed that was USDA certified organic? But I don't really trust the USDA. I believe that they recently loosened the standards for what could be considered organic. So even if it was legal I would probably still only buy it if it was grown by someone I knew and trusted not to use pesticides on it. I don't have anything against people using weed but just the fact that it was (wrongly, in my opinion) made illegal means that there is a black market for it. I talked to people in my town who I know buy weed on a fairly regular basis, and they don't know where it was grown. So that's one thing I wanted to ask DU'ers who have bought it: Is that pretty much how it typically is? That you buy it and don't know where it came from? Stupid question, probably...but what the hell do I know? That's another reason why I think it should be legal. Getting rid of the black market. But making crops legal doesn't really stop people from killing people for them, does it? Bananas, for instance, are pretty much the most legal plant product thing in the world, but people are still getting killed over those. (DU, I think, reported on the Chiquita case several months before the New York Times did. I love this place.) I like the idea of people being able to use marijuana if they want to... I really hate the industry aspect of it, though.
