1. They look like they're ready to be arrested
I'm not sure if we're going to get arrested this weekend in Seattle, but we're thinking about heading north for a similar protest.

13. Idea for a new bumper sticker!
Are we good Americans, yet?

I wonder how many "good" Americans would understand...

6. Oh, they look like a fierce group, better thrown them in jail

They look like the type that might start an animal rescue or volunteer at a soup kitchen.

To jail with them all!

(Screw the fascist fuckers who cower under the faintest whiff of truth)

17. Nah
From what I saw in Sept the DC cops were pretty cool about everything.

At one point they were about to arrest some poor photographer because some of the pro-war asshats told the cops he assaulted them. When we told the cops what really happened they believed us over the violent pro-war people and let him go.

I think they have alot more training in this sort of thing then the average small town cop. I'd be more concerned about your local Barney Fife.

22. "the DC cops were pretty cool about everything"
Then I respectfully suggest that the opposite was my experience.
Perhaps it depends on the specific leadership and officers involved where we were located?

Our experience was that they were "loaded for bear" and would have loved for an excuse to UNLOAD on us. Fortunately, no one stepped out of line - but I could see it getting ugly real fast. :(

10. Cool! Polar Bears Too!
http://www.democracycellproject.net/blog/archives/2007/10/live_blog_score.html#comments

As I sit here on a bench, a group of polar bears is running past me, with signs that say "No War, No Warming". A group of policemen on bikes is chasing them.
NWNW 031.jpg

The kids who shut down Independence Ave. this morning are arrested and on the bus, but other groups are behind them, each doing a different, and often, creative action.

It is not going to be a typical Monday in the Capitol City.

The Women in Pink are holding court, several dressed as Condi and Cheney, dancing in their prison garb.

The polar bears have a rap song, I'll try to get the lyrics.

I haven't seen effective action like this, since... wellllll.... 1977? Clamshell?

Will keep adding photos.

UPDATE: As police walked by escorting a polar bear contingent, I overhead one of the radios crackle: "Twenty on bikes heading east on Constitution."

:)

11. Sitting in front of the Capitol now
50-60 have been arrested, including four polar bears. The police have surrounded the area, but all seems cool.
Rev. Yearwood is speaking, since he is one of the few who have not been arrested yet today.

He is asking us to think about the Iraqi people; those who are suffering for our greed.

Perhaps each person should protest in his own home silently. That way they won't tie up traffic. :)

I wish I didn't have kids depending on me so I could participate more in the civil disobedience. Right now all I can do is offer to support and witness.

31. If you were there, you wouldn't have to be part of the CD
There is always need for support on the ground. That has been my role sometimes, and others who have been arrested too many times in short period. People trade off being arrested or supporting on call with a cellphone. Generally you are out and free again within 8 hours.

There are lots of small groups of people doing very different things. So I have no idea really. But this is effective: helicopters flying overhead, overweight policemen running all over.

We are at the Capitol now, having a small press conference. Rev. Yearwood and Medea Benjamin are speaking now.

Medea just arrived from the West Coast--she is also with Global Exchange, you know, so the war and climate change have always been linked.

37. You are right that this is effective
Because it is civil disobedience and non violent.
That is what is missing in todays protest where we are herded into free speech zones and ignored.
A lot of the most effective protest of the civil rights movement and the war in Viet Nam used civil disobedience as a tactic. Sit ins and even some that chained themselves to buildings to disrupt traffic got the attention of the media.
But those were actually kinder, genteeler times and you folks be careful out there, but don't let them win by resorting to violence.
Non co operation with evil is the way to go.

34. Is it just me.. or does this movie wanna make ya do shrooms?

http://conspirates.com/2007/10/22/the-pharmacratic-inquisition-2007-official-online-edition/

I watched the DI (Drill Instructor) on stuff when I was living
in South America in the 1990s (ya gotta watch this movie
messed-up) and now with these internet movies I'm gettin' the
urge again.

I'm a thinkin' a double feature here: this movie and zeitgeist
on shrooms?.. in the woods of course.
