...but those words are spot on when it comes to Glen Beck, and his commentary today about the California fires.
When I turned on my radio, he was making fun of the fact that the fires were burning very-expensive homes in Malibu. Beck said of these home owners, "Gee. I feel so bad for them. They'll all have to run out on their verandas and catch their private Lear jets to the nearest Four Seasons Hotel."
He seemed to insinuate that they would not be inconvenienced in the least.
He also said (and this is a direct quote), "I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today."
Beck also mocked people who have homes on the shore of Malibu. He said that they really aren't suffering--because even if their homes are on fire, the winds from the ocean will blow the smoke backward--and they will still have great views of the ocean--as their houses burn to the ground.
I did say "punk ass" in the title of my thread, didn't I? Good.
I know it's hard to hear these things, but I think when petulant, dry-drunk punk-ass bullies like Glen Beck make these sort of comments--people need to hear it. We should not ignore this vitriolic brand of air-wave cancer that disseminates hatred and mocks people who are dealing with a life-threatening disaster.
Furthermore, it's also revealing to see how the "Christian right" behaves in times of crisis and personal tragedy.
