NEWSWEEK: Will Christian activists form 3rd party?

Christian conservatives want more respect. They were instrumental in propelling George W. Bush to power—twice—and now they're feeling neglected. At a "Values Voters" summit in Washington last week, leading evangelicals gathered to speak out and take a straw poll. The survey showed how unhappy they are with the twice-divorced, pro-choice Republican front runner for the presidential nomination, Rudy Giuliani. He got less than two percent of the overall vote. (Some Christian activists have threatened to back a third-party candidate if Giuliani wins the GOP nomination.)

2. No--they're just trying to ensure their relevance in choosing the nominee, and

also trying to get concessions from either Rudy or whomever else is chosen.

7. The "We Hate the Constitution Party"

they just don't understand the "constitutional liberties for all citizens" concept. They think the constitution only exists for them; so their solution is just to do away with it altogether.

would be ideal.

But even if they do not start a third party this is friggin' great. Just them discussing it means that they have no unification. It's hard to rally your flock after a candidate when you have a Mormon, an agnostic, a Baptist and an actor who doesn't go to church running.

They want to be separate, and that would definitely separate them from the sane people. But I'm sure it would piss off the remaining polar bears.
