Charlie Rose: Sean Penn smoking?

Caught my eye the other night when Charlie Rose on PBS allowed Sean Penn to smoke in the studio on Rose's show. Guess PBS doesn't have ashtrays anymore as Penn used a tiny plastic cup to throw his ashes is. Nothing against Penn as a fellow smoker but for someone who nearly died a year or so ago and had to have open heart surgery one wonders why Charlie Rose would allow anyone to smoke in his studio though then again Charlie's problems are genetic so maybe he feels he has more serious pathologies than Penn's smoke?

Then again, how strict are New York City's indoor smoking rules, if they have them? Are television studios included in the rules?

I'm sure he knows that he gets a better interview if the subject is made very comfortable, and in the case of a smoker, that means being able to smoke.

That makes sense :)

It was probably a condition for the interview that he be allowed to smoke.
