Poll question: Yes or No. Who thinks the thieves story from San Diego was racially charged?
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 06:21 PM by devilgrrl
This thread is what led me to ask such a question.

My personal answer is yes. I do think the story was racist in tone and I am NOT defending the actions! There was absolutely no need to mention the perpetrators skin tone or nationality and it was only reported as such to divide the masses and provide a convenient scapegoat for the tragic events that have unfolded in Southern California.

Let's hear what the rest of you have to say about this.

For what it's worth, "those people" SAID they were stealing. But then maybe they weren't, and they're just liars.

5. Well, I voted "yes"...but I think your poll left out an option for those
who might honestly disagree with you without also basing their disagreement on racism/bigotry.

Just sayin...

9. I'm sure there's plenty of "white folks" ripping off evacuation supplies at the Q even as I type

It's just easier to profile and catch brown folks who don't speak english very well than is is some brown haired, fair skinned high school graduate meth head with a "small weekend swap-meet business" doing the very same thing.

I knew a few of those people when I lived out in East County; wanna be "tough guys and gals" who really needed some treatment for either mild ADD/ADHD, bi-polar or serious addiction problems. 5 finger discount selling at the swap meets was secondary "under the table" business for them, supplementing their just above minimum wage retail or low skilled trade income.

As one anchor (think it was Stan Miller) said on Monday after hour 36 of broadcasting - "it's too bad, but there are bottom feeders everywhere".
