The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)is a national program in the United States that provides health insurance for families who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid, yet cannot afford to buy private insurance.

Some states have received Section 1115 demonstration authority to use SCHIP funds to cover the parents of children receiving benefits from both SCHIP and Medicaid, pregnant women, and other adults. However, the program is already facing funding shortfalls in several states.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Children%27s_Health_Insurance_Program

In fact aren't you DUing a poll to have more funds for adults added to SCHIP? At least I thought that's what the poll was asking.

Do you agree with the Democrat plan to spend a $35 billion increase to expand a program intended to offer health care to children to also include adults and families more than 300% above the poverty line?

52. I agree that some states allow adults to participate.
But, the laws intent is to insure children. The states must get a wavier from the feds in order to insure adults.

And that is not how I would have written that poll.

http://www.ncsl.org/print/health/forum/SCHIPFAQ.pdf

A much better source of info on SCHIP than wikipedia.
