So what happens when Pakistan finally crumbles?
Just curious, what will happen when the militants and fundamentalists finally take over Pakistan, and gain access to their nuclear arsenal? IMHO, that is where the focus should be, not on some country that may or may not even be pursuing nuclear weapons. From all intelligence reports, Iran is still several years away from being able to build nukes. Pakistan already has them.

Bush has really dropped the ball on this one. By diverting military attention from Afghanistan, he's allowed the Taliban and Al Qaeda to regroup, and become even stronger than before. Now these assholes seem to be on the verge of taking over a country equipped with nuclear weapons.

If god forbid one of these nukes ever gets used on American soil, I will hold Bush, his cronies, and everyone in Congress who enabled this motherfucker in his Iraqi adventure accountable. They may not have actually placed the nukes into terrorist hands, but they've created the perfect scenario for it to happen.

1. We are on the brink of a Middle East War.
When will Pakistan fall? And what will be the US and World response? I agree that this is were the gravest threat is. I wonder if it is known exactly how many nuclear weapons PAK has and were they are. If an assassination or another coup occurred, or even if fundamentalist rise to power through the election channels, who will secure the nukes?
Where would the nukes most likely be used? Very serious threats.

2. I wonder how Israel and India would react
Both countries would have very serious concerns with militants coming into control of Pakistan's nukes.

3. And both have nukes, themselves.
They could pre-empt out of fear. Also, a lot of Americans are next door in Afghanistan. I don't see a positive option in Pakistan's future.

4. Biden's thinking ahead - he understands the big picture better than anyone:
with Lieberman and McCain on this (cringe!) again indicates his ability to 'work across the aisle"
And since he worked on this with McCain and Lieberman (gag) it's further proof that he's easily able to work across the aisle.
I think this is a brilliant political move - "urging" Musharraf and letting Bhutto know that they're supportive of her.

US legislators warn Musharraf on Bhutto's security

snip

"We extend our condolences to you, to the victims' families, and to all of the people of Pakistan," the senators wrote in the letter.

"We believe this devastating attack serves as a stark reminder of the need for effective security mechanisms for the protection of all candidates and their supporters (particularly, although not exclusively, Bhutto and members of her party)..."

snip

They suggested the use of government bomb-proof vehicles and jamming equipment to protect Bhutto and other political leaders from roadside bombs.
