1. Not sure if I'd jump to any conclusions too quickly...
Helicopters in the sky can be heard, and police have riot gear on. Not the most benign of atmosphere.
If they are creating a contained safe area, they have to use some measure to remove those who refuse.
When he calls out: I was just beat by the police...that crap. Rodney King was a police beating, not this.

2. That's a disgusting apology for clearly unprovoked police attacks.
Miami cops went on a police riot that day. This is just part of it.

This is why Miami Chief John Timoney is my 2nd worst cop in America. He trails only asshole Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Phoenix.

3. More and more its accepted behavior with what I would call...
normal citizens. There was one video showing one of the cops saying fuck you, go put this on your website as he put up his middle finger and then another fuck you as he left. And we are supposed to respect the uniform?

4. So what was the background of the scenario
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 02:31 PM by ScreamingWhisper
occurring in this video? Why are there low-flying helicopters directly overhead? Why are the police walking in pairs with protective gear donned? Why are they armed with non-lethal deterrent like the pepper-spray?
No cop I know (4 total) would be geared up like this unless there was a serious crowd concern. Why were the cops shouting "go home" a few moments before the guy refuses and he gets sprayed? I'd like to know a little more before I start condemning the ones who patrol and protect my streets.

Ahhh...the FTAA protest.
Well, I stand corrected. Seen in the larger picture, they did indeed as a whole act entirely wrong. Police are required to be there, but obviously as a whole took a much more active than needed stance in the area of protection and crowd control.
Still I wonder what happen specifically in each of the instances of the 20 protestors who were awarded legal damages?
(updated after some googling)

5. The questions are irrelevant.
It doesn't matter if there were helicopters flying overhead, or if police were wearing protective gear.

6. Police are the Military
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 04:54 PM by Tom Sullivan
Most police come from the military. After they are done killing "Ragheads", Hajjis", and "Sand-niggers" they come home deserving respect and go to work for the president as the occupiers of the United States without a formal declaration of hostilities. See your Websters for the definition of "Police Action".
There is nothing democratic about the police, only sheriffs are elected and accountable to the people. We didn't have widespread police presence until 1892, the same year we got the "Pledge of Allegiance" the oath conquered people have to recite to their 'de facto" government. People living under their De Jure government do not have to pledge or recite an oath because they are not conquered.
Miami police like all police are the front line in state terrorism.
In my town of Marshall, Michigan of the several police since the early 1960s who were practicing sexual predators of children and none ever arrested, the record for children raped by a police officer/Boy Scout leader was "14 that we know of", a statistic supplied to me by the Deputy Police Chief.
The town newspaper teh Marshall Evening Chronicle refuses to report this fact.
After the 1968 Police riots in Chicago, sociologist studied the Chicago Police Force and discovered that 90% were the first born sons of highly authoritarian fathers.
We are being culled for our psychological characteristics to serve a fascist master plan.
That plan is called the Plan for a New American Century.
